It is the kind of gay detective novel that I like but the slow burn was too slow for me. I would have preferred more romance. Halfway through I wasn't engaged anymore. If you like mm romance detective books you might like it though because the tropes are the ones typical of this genere, it is well written and the south rural setting is atmospheric.
The cover doesn't give you the impression that this is a small town blue collar romance. I didn't love thi book. Single mother x it's always been you best friend's brother is not a pairing/tropes that I am fond of. Moreover I would have liked that the book was longer and that we saw more of their relationship after the dinner at the restaurant. Also I wasn't truly rooting for the couple.
Perhaps I didn't like it due to the tropes, perhaps her latest books are not for me anymore.
Extremely similar to Ali Hazelwood's books (like it could be written by her and you wouldn't notice the difference) Very readable but it's been a week and I have forgotten most of what I read
A Sweet love story about a murderous hitman stalker and a mafia princess. It had action, family politics, non boring or cheesy flashbacks, a time jump, slow burn and a bit of angst. All good things. The book was pleasant, nothing mind-blowing but a decent mafia book. It contains cameos but it can be read as a standalone. I am intrigued by her sister and brother's future story. The book was compelling and I listened to it in one sitting.
As per usual I don't think it will be the most unforgettable novel (update form a month later: I have almost no recollection about this book) but it kept me mildly entertained for half a day. This couple was good but for sure it didn't give me butterflies.
On a side note: for the past year I have red way less romance books, and mafia romances, than I used to during the pandemic and the couple of years following and I find reading about murderers more troubling. But it was still done in a way that I found okay.
I have would call it a reread because I've read a previous version (extremely similar) in a short story collection. I liked it, I would say it was worth the read. I enjoy much more this darkverse part of cambrick creek rather the more contemporary one.
