This was book was not for me in any way, shape or form. There were moments where I felt like crying bc it felt so painful to my eyeballs to keep reading this stale book. 2/3 of it is so snail paced and boring and the last third is loaded with nonstop action I just kept rolling my eyes bc I didn't care for Clio and Lyre bc the story was so insipid it never made me endeared to either of them, I just wanted everything to be over with. I should've definitely DNF this book instead of wasting a week of my life with it but I wanted to give Annette Marie and this book a chance but after Red Winter reading AM's books has been disappointment after disappointment. This book was anathema to me but also it just wasn't well written or developed and characterizations were dry and uninspired. I had such a hard time picking up this book and reading at first bc something told me it was gonna be beyond mediocre and unsurprisingly I was not wrong. The only things I kinda liked were Clio's power and Ash's sprinkled appearances, everything else sucked. Idk if this book will finally put me off of reading any Annette Marie books in the future but I won't go out of my way to read any more from her either.

El subtexto lesbico aquí está fuera de serie jaja. No, ya en serio, este libro estuvo muy dulce y bonito. Realmente la pasé bien leyéndolo y me gustó ver los pequeñitos vistazos feministas en Adriana a través del texto. Si la trama hubiera sido ampliada más allá (como por ejemplo todo el hecho de que el tío de Adriana se robó su dinero y se largó y la dejó desamparada cuando tenía 8 (?) años, y de buenas a primeras se le aparece de nuevo en su vida como si nada) y agregado más conflicto y desarrollo de personajes que realmente estaban desaparecidos, la historia hubiera explotado más. Pero como está también está bien. Y no olvidar el subtexto lesbico 😜. O sea sí, Adriana y Margarita tienen una amistad tierna y linda adecuada para aquella época pero que se lee muy queer a la vez, ¿que puedo decir? Lucila Gamero tenía sólo 18 años cuando escribió esta historia y se nota de verdad, por el estilo juvenil pero tratando de captar el estilo de autores establecidos de su época y por los ideales soñadores de una adolescente del siglo 19. En fin, en general la historia está bonita y a mi si me gustó mucho.

I was getting very 80s vibes from this book and it definitely works better to set it then seeing how the MC is having a psychotic break and he's the murderer after all and that's the spooky factor is a reveal that's from that time period, being real. Yeah, being inside Sawyer's mind is creepy and sad bc at no point in the story is the living mannequin a real possibility so it's just delusions and atrophied logic all the time. But the whole premise is kinda insensitive at the same time? Like idk if it's right to use psychosis like this for scares? I also feel slightly bamboozled bc I thought there was gonna be an actual living killer mannequin on the loose but no. This book was kinda ass but I didn't loathe it and the writing was all right for the most part but I still wasted my time.
