“Apparuit iam beatitudo vestra”

Okay lots to say here. The storyline ? Not all that great, did I like it? Sure, yeah. Was I enthralled and amazed? Yeah, no. The characters, some of them got me a little upset. Not gonna lie. What I did love though was the atmosphere. The emphasis on the beauty of Italian literature and just language in general had me reeled. (Language whore things) and the mentions of Florence and various beautiful places, I loved those.

I didn’t love Gabriel. He was nice I guess. I loved how gentle he was, I loved that he was sweet to Julia and I liked that he was an attentive lover. What I loved most though was his affiliations with Oxford, Princeton and Harvard. Who dosent love academically rigorous institution alumnus?

Julia. I liked her. She’s nice and kind and sweet but after reading about strong, badass and no bullshit women in books, Julia didn’t really resonate with me. I liked her though.

Okay so, what I hated the most here, was the kink shaming. Major major kink shaming that went on for pages. There’ll be a minor spoiler here:

Gabriel was involved with a dominatrix that enjoys consensual S&M. Emphasis on the consensual. Gabriel shitting on said dominatrix because Julia dislikes S&M was just downright rude. It’s understandable on Julia’s end, she suffered sexual trauma (in a sense) and Co relating sex and pain is harmful for her , BUT GABRIEL. And the way kinks were portrayed in this book? Horrible. The way said dominatrix was portrayed ? Way worse.

It’s essential that we understand kinks are liberating to a whole lot of people, shitting on it isn’t exactly nice.

Overall though, I did enjoy the book. Paul calling Julia Rabbit made me gag but I liked Gabriel and Julia’s relationship.

“She wasn’t you”

The quote here is very misleading alright, there is no other woman. I just liked it. So where do I begin ? I quite liked this book, it was a wonderfully lighthearted read and it was fun too ! The banter and humour between the couple ? Immaculate. Loved it. Living for it. I loved the theme mostly. Paris? sign me up !! Will I be taking this book with me as a tour guide to Paris? Yes, yes I will.

Mira. Disturbed by so called bringing shame to her desi family for not wanting to settle for a marriage without love, goes on a work trip to Paris alongside her annoying colleague, Jake. Mira’s flight back home gets delayed by a day, and so does Jake’s. The two then (begrudgingly, Mira at least) begin a journey of ticking the boxes off of Mira’s Paris bucket list and somewhere along the line, they start fancying each other ;)))
Sooner than later, the two find themselves inseparable but the idea of going back to reality and Jake leaving for his 10.00pm date (a hookup, actually) looms over them. Yeah, that’s also not the only dreadful event looming over them.

I was heartbroken that the book ended that way, it wasn’t necessarily bad or a cliffhanger I just felt, unsatisfied. THANKFULLY, the author states that there’s more Mira and Jake to come. I would definitely love to explore the relationship between these too !

Either way, y’all should definitely pick this up ! It’s a fun and cheesy read with banter and humor that also works as a tour guide to Paris. Mira’s detailed lists call out to me, as a fellow list maker (lol). Loved this ! I would’ve loved a lot more action ;))) and interactions between Jake and Mira but I guess I’ll have to wait for the next book.

“I miss you, Josh. I’m sorry that you chose me, but I’ll always cherish my memories of you.We were explorers. We were adventurers. We were friends.”

People told me that this would truly creep me out. Initially it did, it definitely did in the beginning. But later on I kind of understood that it was a stalker story. Was I afraid ? Definitely. While I quite enjoyed the way the story was told I would’ve loved if there was a lot more closure. I think what unnerved me was the fact that this was a harmless penpal project that turned sinister real bloody quick. The Polaroids, the dead animals, the woods. Creeped me out like nobody’s business.

But as much as this was a horror, it was a story of friendship. Saw someone say “creepypasta? More like weepypasta!“ and I agree. Josh was a wonderful friend and I liked him, him being caught was unexpected to me and it hurt. I knew something bad would happen just not to Josh.

“My name is Violet Choudhury. I descend from an ancient royal heritage. Since the days when India was the enchanted playground of gods and maharajas, the women in my family were queens—Aiedeo.”

I loved The premise of the story. It actually got a tad confusing but it all actually made sense to me. I truly believe that this could’ve been executed in a neater and orderly manner but I think the chaotic layout gives the book its charm.

It took me a while to get into it, especially having a white washed, mean girl lackey desi girl. Did I grow into loving Violet? Yes, but super super late into the book. The book’s worldbuilding was also a lot longer which makes it slightly draggy.

I really do hope there’s a follow up to this book. I really would love to explore it more.

“But to me, roses and poems can’t compare.”

No words. Let’s start off by saying my heart shattered. Most people say in a perfect world vigilante justice is ok, but I think it’s a perfect world and we should stan vigilante justice. Hearing Victoria’s story only brought back the multiple cases of torture children and women went through where their abusers got away with a slap on the wrist. It’s fearful because we all know that this has, is or will happen somewhere. It broke my heart, into a million pieces.

Lana. I love Lana. She is my everything. She deserves all the love and more. All of it. My love and devotion. My precious badass. I love Lana and the world needs Lanas.

Logan. Yeah he’s cool or wtv. Him silencing her, borderline angry-screwing her and leaving her vulnerable and confined? Not cool. At least he came to his senses eventually.

Hadley and Jake. My precious babies. I love these two so much it hurts.

Please search up thorough trigger warnings before reading Mindfu*k. It’s a wonderful book. I loved it with every vigilante justice loving fibre in me. Female rage? Female vengeance ? I love. We need more of these, truly.

I also recently learnt that the author has passed. Thank you so much for putting this masterpiece out into the world. Rest in peace queen.

It took me to while to get into this but I ended up liking it quite a lot. The themes and settings were what really roped me in. I love a dark goth castle involved world.

Isadora. Isa bella. Isa intrigued me from the start and so did Lucian. I loved them both equally But what I REALLY LOVED, was the way the story unfolded towards the end in a manner that you least expect. LOVE.

”A refined editor and his chaotic author,”

Let me start by saying, my little paranormal obsessed heart loved the dead romantics so so so much. I loved every detail, from the characters all the way to every minor detail. Gonna talk about this for the next 3-6 months. PREPARE TO BE SICK OF ME. Truly, at one part I actually flung the book at my mattress and I ABSOLUTELY HATED ASHLEY (the author) took a break and sobbed my heart out to Lana’s Summertime Sadness :) and then few more pages in and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED ASHLEY. Safe to say I jump to conclusions horribly fast but my heart is full and happy and I can’t describe it. To feel this way, is amazing. AND CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE WONDERFUL REPRESENTATION HERE? DANA , NICKI AND CARVER? SO MUCH LOVE.

Florence. I’ve always loved the name Florence so maybe I’m biased when I say I love Florence. Florence was ACTUALLY different. I resonate in a sense. No, I don’t see ghosts but I always believed people who told me they did. There’s fascination in the unknown I suppose. She’s funny, she’s kind, she’s beautiful and she’s clever. Shes all that and more. I loved Florence.

Benji. Benji. I loved Benji. I ADORED HIM. i love a man who reads romance and a man WHO IS NOT BORDERLINE MISOGYNISTIC. W Benji.

The entire book. The settings. The feeling of home. The feeling of family and Florence’s dad. To grow up around a father who loved your mother, a father that nurtured and stayed around instead of the usual abandonment. That called out to somewhere deep inside of me. I loved Florence’s family. I loved the Dead Romantics and if I could
I would never leave this beautiful world behind. If I could I’d stay in Florence and Benji’s world a lot longer.

“In the artificial glare of the work light, in the dawn that for us was not a dawn, she died.”

Let me start by saying, please go in with lots of caution. I picked up this book thinking it was about a serial killer. I did not read the blurb but I wanted to go in blind. It was way worse. A lot more sinister. Few chapters in and I realised that this was the fictionised story of Sylvia Likens. And Sylvia’s case broke my heart, truly. Nevertheless, I pulled through the book, to see if my suspicions were right. They were (the author mentions it in his author’s note)

If you’re looking for something so severely disturbing that will make you begin questioning your faith in humanity? This is the book for it. Again I say, please tread carefully. The book goes into heavy detail.

Yes, despite it all. I have no soft spot for Dave whatsoever. He tried to help sure, but it was too late. At the end of the day, he stood there too. And for the rest of them? I can’t even begin to tell you how much I wished they were dead. But the sad reality’s that they all truly are roaming free. Because what? They were children? That’s bullhshit, they were old enough to know what they were doing. I’m not saying that they’re not victims of their mother’s manipulation, they sure are. But they played an equally horrible role in Meg’s demise.

Ruth. No words. Glad she’s dead. Glad she died that way even.

Let me start by saying this was quite great. I will say that it’s extremely triggering and would advice everyone to search up thorough trigger warnings before venturing into this book. It was a good thriller and the way the story unfolded to readers before it did to characters in the book was good. I’m assuming it’s a deliberate play of the author’s. I liked it. The author references the kidnapping of Colleen Stan but this reminded me of the Fritzl case. Truly horrifying.

Then She Was Gone is the heartbreaking story of a family dealing with grief, the devastating story of a mother who lost her golden child, the terrifying story of how sick lengths some individuals will go to appease themselves and a keep someone tied to them, the story of a mentally bothered man who was nothing but a child to hold on to and the dark secrets he buries, ultimately it’s a story of gore, grief and the audacity. (I mean this in the meanest way possible, sick sick Noelle,SICK SICK Floyd)

Overall, I recommend. If you’re looking for a great thriller, give this one a try.

“Now you owe me two million kisses.”

I went in with no expectations and I did not even know I’d love it this much. So so much. The entire virginity schtick got me a little turned off but I think it turned out well.
I could see how h’s view and standpoint changes as she goes on and discovers her sexuality.

Wren,Birdy. Sweet little Wren, the school’s Virgin sweetheart. She’s innocent and kind and everything a male chauvinist might want in a woman. She’s judgey towards others and she hates sex. But she has her reasons. To compensate for this pick me behaviour, she has reasons to back her chastity up and to add, she does eventually know better and Change her views. What I did like most about Wren was her personality as a whole. She’s sweet and she cares.
She’s smart and she’s beautiful.

Crew. What’s your high school romance without the brooding bad boy. I wouldn’t hold crew to such a high regard because he’s honestly doing the bare minimum when it comes to women in general. But he is a good man. That I will say.  But with wren? He goes over the top and I love that so much. He spoils and loves and respects his little birdy, always there for her but understanding she can hold her own. And for this, I loved Crew.

Issues I had with the book:
- your usual high school boys being manwhores that slutshame girls (disgusting, honestly)
- wren’s entire POV while she was so bound to virginity as a social construct

Overall though, I quite liked this.
