i really enjoyed this one!!! i will say the major pitfall of this book (for me) was that scarlett’s story dominated my interest and made it hard to care about carly’s story, which i was less invested in.

i don’t know that my introduction to “romantasy” could have gone any better. i loved this book. the characters were lovely and refreshing and the plot had intrigue, but at a level that still left the book feeling warm and cozy. i Never™️ say this, but goddamn i hope there is a sequel. i can’t wait to read more from this author.

i don’t rate memoirs because that feels weird, but this book is deeply, deeply impactful, well written, vulnerable, and rooted in a love for people. the explorations of faith, gender, queerness, and society are valuable beyond words. i appreciate this book more than i can express and i hope it continues to find a home in the hearts of other people as well.

it’s been an Incredibly Long Time™️ since i sat down and read a book entirely in one sitting, no breaks. i adore this book a lot, and i’m glad that it’s here for the young queer people of today :) very cheesy, very cute, very readable. a great rom-com!

this was highly anticipated for me and honestly i feel nothing, which is impressive considering i have feelings about everything. i think this was well written but something about this book and me didn’t jive, i never became emotionally invested in the events that were happening throughout the book or the characters themselves. i have another emily henry on my shelf, so this isn’t the end of our journey, but this book was disappointing to say the least.

i love this universe and these characters, i loved seeing them grapple with new challenges and gain new depth, but i think reading this book in such a disjointed manner did it a disservice, which is my bad. i would love to reread this series soon!

i simply have to wonder if i read the same book as some of these other reviewers. i picked this book up on a whim on my kindle and i wish i could go back in time. i would say we were chillin up until about 40% in or so when both of the main characters seem to have a total personality change and the pacing goes out the window. this relationship is volatile. the characters do not have a singular conversation in this entire damn book, meaningful or otherwise. the main male character says wild, cruel shit all throughout this book to the main female character and it all goes unchecked. and don’t get me started on that first sex scene — what the fuck was that? she’s feeling nothing but pain, tells him to stop, and shit just keeps going??????? no biggie?????? after that i was mentally checked out of this book. ugh. what a fuckin ride (derogatory).
