this broke me
definitely the best fantasy series i’ve read in my life so far

i really liked the premise of the book—a group of badass women fighting for their rights during this patriarchal era. i also genuinely enjoyed the intelligent conversations and how the fmc stands up for herself. but, i just didn’t like how the fmc literally became a damsel in distress at one point, and the mmc had to be the one to “save” her. it was just ironic to me. i also think the second half of the book was rushed especially when the mmc “fell in love.”
but overall, it was a quick and enjoyable read!!!

i have mixed feelings about this. there were parts wherein i was hooked and i couldn’t put it down, but there were also parts that made me want to pull my hair out.
i really liked the writing style. i surprisingly enjoyed the jump between timelines because it emphasized the differences between the relationships of the characters in different points in their lives. i also liked how all characters were given enough depth which made them interesting and real.
i just think there was a lot of miscommunication all throughout which lead to somewhat baseless or even stupid fights between the characters which was annoying. but somehow, it does reflect real life.

“It doesn’t matter that he loves her. It doesn’t matter. It’s never mattered.”
pain, just pain
pain, just pain
i’m so glad i listened to the audiobook (thank you spotify). jennette’s story was heartbreaking, but the way she delivered her story made me laugh in some parts ironically. she has a way with words that made me feel like i was in a casual conversation with a friend who has dark humor which made it so authentic, raw, and real.
i hope she continues to write more books, whatever the genre may be.
