The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah

I’m glad I finished it. There were emotional moments and, eventually, the plot kept me going. Kristin Hannah’s exposition writing seems so cheesy that it’s difficult for me to take it seriously. But with a 600 page book, I suppose I got over it and powered through anyway. I look forward to the movie adaptation, but I can’t say Hannah did much for me.

I reallyyy liked this one. The character development was engaging and the plot moved along fast enough to stay interesting. Seems like there’s solid research by the author into the setting, and it sparked some further interest into that part of American history for me.

There were times I had to stop and evaluate some seemingly misplaced details. I also just don’t love her exposition writing.

That being said, I did really enjoy the story and was provoked to think deeper about the setting and its relevance in American history. I recommend this one!

I’ve loved learning more about women’s health, hormones, and the menstrual cycle and would recommend this book. I gave it four stars because there were parts I skipped, but overall I learned a lot and started noticing patterns in myself that were explained in the book.

I definitely recommend Jon Krakauer for anyone trying to get into nonfiction, especially if you have a taste for adventure. His writing style is very approachable imo. Also just a really interesting story about a kid looking for more than what life can give him.

Wow. It felt like I was reading this book for forever. I’m glad I finished it because it really does provide an important perspective on the world, but it could have been done in at least 100 pages less.

4 stars because it’s just not great writing BUT I was very hooked and of course I’m reading the rest of the series.

Again, the way she writes drives me a bit nuts but the plot had me hooked and the end had me on a roller coaster of emotions
