I don't have the qualifications to call this masterful, but I certainly consider it masterful.
Despite my reading slump, this has been in the back of my head and I'm very glad I finished.
Four different narrators telling the same stories with the final narrator being inevitable yet still emotionally gripping.

Very few books I consider true 5/5s. This is one of them.

Brought back my childhood love of pirates. Woodard does a fantastic job in bringing an engaging narrative to the colonial, political, economic, and social world of pirates. He relies strongly on the best first party source of the day for a lot of the material. This book is an easy and delightful read that has rekindled my interest in pirates. Definitely recommend.

Big fan of heists and this book plays into all the parts of heists that I enjoy, then adds a wonderfully unique system of magic melded with modern day.
Very realistic colonial struggles alluded to in the book making it feel even more grounded. The characters are all unique, loveable, and bring their own particular perspective. Perhaps it's because I am older now that some of the tropes seem a bit tired to me, but Chokshi does a masterful work with her unique setting and story. Definitely give a read!

Magpie Murders reminded me that I genuinely love murder mysteries when done well.
It evoked that charm of reading Agatha Christie for the first time with a nice twist throughout. Generally I don't like story-within-a-story type books. I feel like they tend to yank you out of the book but Horowitz did a fantastic job.
I am genuinely looking forward to reading the follow up.
One of my new recommendations going forward.
