N. K. Jemisin has a way with words that no other does. Her stories ebb and flow like the tide, pulling you along with it until you are finally grabbed by that under-toe, that under current that is so forceful and so strong that you are thrown under and trying to so desperately to gasp for air, just to be taken again, but in a new direction this time. Not knowing where you are going or if you will make it. But then, as you are spit out on another shore, heaving in gulps of air, and finally take a look where you've landed, it's absolutely stunning and powerful, and you want to do it again just to see where you are taken next.
The Fifth Season was such a thrill to read and get sucked into that didn't want to get spit back out. What I thought was one thing turned out to be another. Whenever I had an idea of where the story was going, I was tossed onto another path with no clue as to which way was up.
The way the 'three' stories intertwined and connected was such a shell shock it had me texting my friend "wait.. WAIT" so many times.
The characters were flawed but lovable for those flaws. Alabaster easily became a favourite character of all time for me and I am so unsure of his fate that I want to scream and pray and shout until I know he is going to make it through this series.
I can not wait to read more of this rollercoaster of a series and it was easily a 5 star read for me.
