The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
5.0
An incredible sequel to an incredible series. 5/5 Stars
"You’re stronger than you believe. Don’t let your fear own you. Own yourself."
Mara Dyer knows she's not crazy, but that's kind of hard to tell people that believe she's losing it. She knows Jude's alive but no one will believe her. Her only ally is Noah and together they will try to find answers.
The characters in this book stay the same, for the most part. We're introduced to a few new ones that are important, but if I said why that would be the hugest spoiler. I do have to say that I loved how Noah and Mara's relationship blossomed, though. They are completely perfect for each other.
"If I were to live a thousand years, I would belong to you for all of them. If we were to live a thousand lives, I would want to make you mine in each one."

This is the truest quote in the book that will bring tears to your eyes when you realize the ending.
I literally could not put this book down. Normally, when I get my hands on a sequel I'm cautious because it will either be really good or just filler. I have to say that this honestly was better than the first book. The author gives us more questions than answers that we won't find out until the last book. Oh yeah, did I mention the ginormous cliffhanger. Well, there is a huge one.

I bought this book thinking the third one was coming out in June. Now it says NOVEMBER?!?!?! I can't wait that long, I'm going to drive myself insane! Michelle, how could you do this to me?

Oh, don't mind me. Just waiting while slowly dying on the inside.

Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover
5.0
"Sometimes two people have to fall apart, to realize how much they need to fall back together."
This book was butterflying perfect!!! This was such an excellent sequel to Slammed. Oh, and did I mention it's in Will's POV? And that's just the cherry on top.
Point of Retreat picks where Slammed left off. Layken is slowly moving on from losing her mother and raising her brother with Will. But nothing can ever go smoothly, now can it? Yeah so when Will returns to college, guess who he runs into? None other thanthe skank Vaughn. Ahem, anyways Vaughn begins to question why Will even likes Layken and pretty much sets out to get back together with Will.
But when Layken starts to question their relationship, well it just gets more complicated.
As far as the story went, I liked that we saw everything from Will's perspective. It was refreshing and who doesn't want to be in Will's head? And we only meet a couple new characters, Kiersten and her mother. And can I mention how much I loved Kiersten? She was such a nice character and her view on cuss words had me dying. And Layken and Will's relationship is so adorable. Um, Can I have a Will Cooper too? Pretty please?!?!
“Okay. Would you rather I looked like Hugh Jackman or George Clooney?”
“Johnny Depp,” she says.
She answers a little too fast for my comfort. “What the hell, Lake? You’re supposed to say Will! You’re supposed to say you want me to look like me!”
“But you weren't one of the options,” she says.
“Neither was Johnny Depp!”
I have to admit that Layken did agitate me a bit when she believed whatthe whore Vaughn said versus what Will was telling her. But he does go above and beyond with proving that he only loves her. Insert swoon at his poem. And the poems? Don't worry, there are more! They're as remarkable as they were in Slammed. My personal favorites being Butterfly and Point of Retreat.
“So I'm not about to apologize for loving all these things about you, no matter the reasons or the circumstances behind them.
And no, I don't need days , or weeks , or months to think about why I love you.
It's an easy answer for me.
I love you because of you .
Because of
every
single
thing
about you .”
“I have one thing to say to you
And I’m not referring to the bullies
Or the ones they pursue.
I’m referring to those of you that just stand by
The ones who don’t take up for those of us that cry
Those of you who just…turn a blind eye.
After all it’s not you it’s happening to
You aren’t the one being bullied
And you aren’t the one being rude
It isn’t your hand that’s throwing the food
But…it is your mouth not speaking up
It is your feet not taking a stand
It is your arm not lending a hand
It is your heart
Not giving a damn.
So take up for yourself
Take up for your friends
I challenge you to be someone
Who doesn’t give in.
Don’t give in.
Don’t let them win.”
Preach it Kiersten!!! I absolutely hate bullying and I loved how Kierstens stood up for herself.
All in all, this book was amazing and is definetly worth the read. If you've read Slammed, you need to pick this one up. After this book, I realized how much I love Colleen Hoover and her books. They are incredible. So Point of Retreat gets a 5 star rating from me!

Defiance by Shelly Crane
5.0
This book definetly did not disappoint, it keeps you reeled in until you realize there are no more pages left. And it's the worst feeling ever when you realize you finished it in one day.
Defiance begins where Accordance left off. Seriously, the time lapse between Accordance and Defiance is an hour at most. So we see now that Marla is an enemy that is trying to destroy Maggie. But that isn't her only enemy, the council's leader will stop at nothing to keep Caleb and Maggie apart. The reason? To protect their precious Visionary. Now Caleb and Maggie are facing the council for the deaths of a couple Watsons from Accordance. But not everything is as it seems. The council's rules definetly need to be updated and some are trying to use Maggie's power in their favor. But everything gets worse when the Watson's plans come to light and Maggie must bring Bish and her father to London to keep them safe. Somewhere where normal humans aren't allowed. The Jacobson family stands beside Maggie as they try to figure out what Marla has up her sleeve. Enemies become allies and no one is safe.
We are introduced to several new characters in Defiance. We meet the council and several members of other clans. We also see some light as to who Maggie's real father is. Maggie is beginning to grow as a character and we see her start coming out of her shell. She starts speaking her mind and telling the council what should be done. She's not sitting back and letting people take advantage of her anymore. Caleb? I think with every book, he's becoming more and more perfect. Seriously, why is he a fictional character in a book? Why isn't he real? *sigh* Anyways, Caleb is still amazingly sweet and willing to do anything for Maggie. We see more of Bish and Jen as well. And trust me when I say it's aggravting. I know Jen has Maria to think about but still...I don't know. And we see more of Rodney! He becomes a more constant character in this book.
This book had me going through a lot of emotions. I was happy, then mad, frustrated, swooned, mad some more, and then sad. The ending is definetly bittersweet as we lose a character that I, for one, loved. But we also see 3 more imprints that make you so happy to see. So just be prepared to cry at the end. All in all this book was great and had many twists and turns. I can't wait to read Independence.

Spoiler
This is the part of the book that made me angry/very sad. Don't read if you don't want the ending spoiler. Rodney was such a sweet character and deserved to be happy. And I was so excited when Maggie had a vision of him meeting his significant. But someone has to get the short end of the stick, don't they? So, when Rodney was killed protecting Caleb and Maggie, I was in shock. I didn't believe it. At first I thought he was just injured. Then when Caleb holds him and says he's gone, I broke. Not only because it was Rodney but also because of Caleb and Kyle's reaction. They were heartbroken and it was just sad. And if that wasn't enough Maggie ends up meeting Rodney's would-be significant. She was clueless and said she just felt sad because she didn't know Rodney well enough. So she was already in withdrawl and it was just depressing. This book had me going through a lot of emotions. I was happy, then mad, frustrated, swooned, mad some more, and then sad. What? You're telling me there are going to be more books to the Significant series?

This is a novella that sets up the next book in the series, Undeniably Chosen. We see what Caleb and Maggie have been up to. They are happy with two children, Ava and Rodney. But everything isn't always happily ever after. The Watson's havent given up trying to get their powers back. The story takes a dramatic turn when Maggie and Caleb realize that Ava is part of this plan. They then go on a mission to save the people the Watson's held captive,
You also don't want to miss the two chapters of Undeniably Chosen that are at the end. I can honestly say I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book with Ava. 4/5 stars.
