World Without End by Ken Follett

An epic over thousand pages novel that tells a grand story with unique, fun, and heartfelt characters - it's a favorite. It's been made into a television series which does change parts of the later story but in some great ways. Read the book first, then enjoy the sprawling series for what is is - some good television adapted from a great story.

McCourt is a master storyteller - and he hits home here for teachers of high schoolers (and even middle schoolers). His personal stories interweave with eureka moments from his classroom give us a flavor of teaching and how, in many ways, it is indeed timeless. Sure, there are differences if you're teaching in New York and if you're teaching in suburbia - but kids are kids. Students are students. And you got to get to know them, understand them, and in some way - find a way to like them. Show them you care, guide them to mastery of life along the way while you teach them the subjects. I'll be re-reading this one for sure.

This is a simpler tale with several layers - so much to explore. I couldn't put this one down. It's got action, romance, tense moments, touching moments, and is just a fun read. There's something in this story for everyone.

A fun and different take on the Pied Piper story. It works on all levels.
