The Uncontrolled Variables by Jana Foster
4.0
“That was the problem with secrets. You could bury them as deep as you liked, do everything and anything to hide them, sink them until they were forgotten under murky waters. But all carcasses eventually float to the top, bloated and rotten, their putrid odor demanding attention.”
“The Uncontrolled Variables,” by Jana Foster
This book is about a research student wanting to create medicine that will cure people but the morality of what she is willing to do to help the mass of sick people despite potentially hurting and using the few leaves her to question her choices. I liked that it felt a little like a coming-of-age type book with her need and desire to be loved and to achieve greatness and it blinds her to her current reality, it was very dynamic. I liked the relationship and how it was built. It was a really good book that glued to the story the entire time. 4 out of 5 stars.

“Consort,” by Rachel Grey
I’ve read a bunch of books by Rachel Grey; this one wasn’t one of my favorites, but it was good. I liked the entire omegaverse and inter species type of relationship thing. I think if the book was longer, and the relationships could have been built a little longer I might have vibed with it a little more. I liked the male consort plot of the book, because it was so unique. The characters were loveable, I just wanted more of them. 3 out of 5 stars.

What Happened on Roslyn Street? by Elle Lavendelle

“What Happened on Roslyn Street?,” by Elle Lavendelle
This book was way different than I thought. I always have an idea that books that have these types of covers are just cutesy and cozy, but they aren’t always lol. It had the cozy amateur sleuth feel that I was expecting but the romance was way more intense than I was expecting, but in a good way. The romance was literally my favorite part, there was so much tension and chemistry between the two omg. I did think the plot took a back seat to the romance, but it worked well that way, at least I was happy about it. I can’t wait for book 2 and seeing what will happen between them. 4 out of 5 stars.

A Cursed Rose: A Dark Fairy Tale Fantasy Romance by C.R. Matysik

“A Cursed Rose,” by C. R. Matysik
This book was okay. I didn’t love the plot as much as other books that are similar. The main issue was the romance, it was marked as a slow burn and the romance to me felt rushed at the first 50% of the book. It definitely didn’t feel like a slow burn at all. I don’t know, it didn’t vibe with me like I wanted it to, but it wasn’t bad, just not my thing. 3 out of 5 stars.

The Prince from a Cruel Summer: A Forbidden Romantasy by Anya J Cosgrove

“The Prince from a Cruel Summer,” by Anya J. Cosgrove
What I liked:
-It gave the same vibes as the last one
-I liked the academy magic school trope
-The way the characters were written, they had both lightness to them and also darkness to their characters, which made it feel like the entire book wasn’t all the same thing but constantly changing.
-Loved the romance and tension- with the forbidden romance and the twists and turns with that in the second half of the book.
-The plot! So, the first half was a standard magic school type plot, and everything fit that mold, but I wasn’t expecting the second half to be completely different from that. It made me happy that the book wasn’t in one place the entire time.
I really like this series; it gives me everything I look for in a fantasy fae romance book and isn’t too heavy on just romance or just plot but a really good combo of both. 4 out of 5 stars.
