I'm glad I read this right after my trip to SF - it made it so much easier to picture the various locations described throughout the book. I loved all the descriptions throughout the book, of people, places, food, etc. I feel like the book doesn't really have a strong plot, and it is more just centered on our MC drifting around. While I like the MC, I felt like I didn't get to know her as well as I would have liked. I felt like she kept me at arms length the entire book, but I did feel like I got to know the other characters pretty well. Loneliness was definitely a central theme of this novel, and the author did a wonderful job of capturing that feeling. Despite the lack of plot and distance from the MC, I still greatly enjoyed this one.

I love books centering around obsession, and I love books with an academic setting. Loner has both, but in a different way than the books I normally consume. Because the MC is, well, a loner, there is a lack of that 'college' feel as he isn't deeply involved in the school. Add in his lack of self-awareness and cunning to his obsessive behavior, and you have a more unique story. I really enjoyed this as I was unsure where it was going throughout and enjoyed the twists. I also liked that it was a quick read but still had a lot of depth to it. Love an unsettling read.

I don't really understand what this was about. The characters were flat and the plot was nonexistent.

This was a hard read for me due to my own experiences with rural idaho. No issues with the book or the writing, just a personal thing.

4.5 - Wow wow wow despite feeling not smart enough to fully *get this* I loved it. It was such a unique and well-written read. I loved how all the stories were connected in subtle ways, and throughly enjoyed every character. I went into this blind and felt a bit thrown off at first, but once I was about 50 pages in I was very invested. This made me want to escape to a cabin up north!! I highly recommend this one if you're looking for an original lit fic story.
Creep: A Love Story by Emma van Straaten

3.5 - I wanted to like this more than I did. I truly enjoyed most of it. I loved the unhinged plot, the unraveling main character, and the general insanity of it all. I struggled a bit with the writing style - while beautifully written it went on and on which made the book feel much much longer than it actually was. While I was still invested in the story, I noticed myself starting to skim a bit because I wanted to know what was happening but felt it was being told in too many words. Despite this, I did enjoy the general chaos of it all and recommend this to anyone who enjoys obsession and unhinged MCs.
