it's a sanderson so <333
i'd say it worked better for me than his more sci-fi works though it wasn't as good as mistborn (what is??) or the emperor's soul. but that's not saying much because i absolutely loved those.
my main complaint is that i wanted so much more from this. there is so much lore, so much potential that i just wanted this book to go into detail on everything but i guess it isn't fair to ask sanderson to only write books with upwards of 1000 pages.
basically, i just hope the warbreaker sequel comes soon cause i can't be made to wait long :((

this isn't haha funny but it's definitely one of the funniest books I've ever read in that "it shouldn't be funny" way
2 sisters, one brothel, loads of murders and just all around shitty behaviour.
at one point a guy is like "sure, i ordered her to beat her friend with a stick but when her friend was nearly dying I did the right thing, I was humanitarian and took the stick away from her" - if this isn't straight man audacity i don't know what is

for the girls and the gays...

“The perfect evening...lying down on the couch beside the bookcase and reading himself sleepy...Jim lying opposite him at the other end of the couch, also reading; the two of them absorbed in their books yet so completely aware of each other's presence.”
loved the mc'c pov. the way isherwood expresses grief and the raging thoughts is superb, chef's kiss.

i loved this book. it's all about morality and immorality - does that change how good a book is? not according to Wilde. Art is separate from morality and immorality. Surface and depth shouldn't be separated and we should take art as a whole. an immoral book isn't a bad book. one can only judge a bad book by its writing, not its themes and content. the subtle but obviously there comments on queer in the victorian era leave the reader wondering and the corruption of DG upon the men he encounters throughout the novel is then a very suspicious thing.
Overall, Wilde is a great author and his novel is an amazing work of art in my opinion.

Loved it. The commentary is exquisite I would say. The way the animals were portrayed could easily be applied to humans. MAde you think about how humankind is corrupt and how dictatorships start with reasonable requests that start escalating slowly until people don't realised they're in a bad situation. Like a frog in boiling water.

now I've read 2 of Gaiman's books and the writing style is so unique. I didn't know if it was particular to Norse Mythology but apparently not. his books are not action packed. the writing is very slow but that makes you appreciate it more if it makes sense. I read the books pretty slowly but they don't disappoint in the end
