An Unlasting Home by Mai Al-Nakib

the writing was beautiful but it wasn’t a story I really cared for.
I loved how the diff generations of women were intertwined but outside of that it seemed a little all over the place and I found myself zoning out a lot.
It also seemed like there was almost like a milking of the identity crisis trope. I’m probably biased but I’m so tired of the idea that freedom and Islam can’t coexist.
Overall it just lacked nuance and I was bored a lot of the time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was such an easy read and really easy to get sucked into.
I loved the commentary on the sacrifices women are often called to make for the sake of making everyone else happy. This also kinda hit home for me bc there were aspects of Afi that were leaning towards trying to keep the peace and do all that’s asked of her, even if that meant ignoring the parts of her that felt a way. I love how this book spoke to how society can see women as disposable and their sole purpose being to please others.
I was amazed and found myself marking several pages to revisit later because it was so timely and so real.
Loved it!

Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan

One of the best Black adult romances I’ve ever read. I loved the way love was talked about and described. It felt like the love was so beautiful and potent that it almost hurt. It was described in such a heartbreaking way that I found myself tearing up during certain moments.
I ESPECIALLY LOVED THE TIME AND ATTENTION PAID TO THE PLATONIC FRIENDSHIPS/LOVE IN THIS BOOK. Yasmen needed her girls and I loved how much she loved them, and how they were described as people who grounded her.
Overall absolutely beautiful!!! Kennedy Ryan might just be one of my fav romance authors !!!
