I Might Regret This: Essays, Drawings, Vulnerabilities, and Other Stuff by Abbi Jacobson
4.0
I love Abbi Jacobson so much. I Might Regret This reads like a stream of consciousness, and by the end of it I felt like I had just finished a road trip with a close friend. A little bit funny, a little bit inspirational, a little bit informational about Broad City, and extremely relatable.
New Year, Same Trash: Resolutions I Absolutely Did Not Keep by Samantha Irby

God I love Samantha Irby.
"But it goes down at eight on Thursday nights, and I usually reserve that time for looking at pictures of nachos on the internet while eating steamed broccoli and trying to come up with reasons not to step off the curb in front of a bus, so I don't make it that often."

Extremely enthralling plot! I found the writing not entirely holding my attention during some parts, but I loved the characters, the story line, and honestly even the lack of answers.

“What a waste, what a crime, to wreck a world so abundantly full of different kinds of flowers.”
I really wanted to like this a lot more than I did. Predictably political, but surprisingly poetic. The writing is beautiful at times, but easily lost my attention at others.

Beautifully written novel about grief and marriage. But super, super weird.

“It is my right to be unsociable and it is my right to be unpleasant to be around. Do you ever listen to yourself? This is crazy, that is crazy, everything is crazy to you. By whose measure? Well, it is my right to be crazy... I have no shame. I have felt many things in my life, but shame is not among them.”
This is a super dark feminist collection of short stories. Machado’s beautiful writing really added such a surreal edge. All of the stories were poetic in their own ways, following queer and feminist themes throughout strange imagery. My favorite story was “Inventory.”
Overall: I really enjoyed the writing style of this book, but some of the stories felt flat and were hard to get through. I do recommend it for anyone who would be into an adult queer version of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

Holy shit, this book is so good.
“Sometimes I take a break from hating myself and think I might be pretty fuckin’ BALLERRRRR.”
“I started thinking about myself not only as part of a Native community, but a different tribe, one of young women sucking on silence, biting down hard in their tongues, because putting out is normal, and no matter how much it hurts to be quiet, it hurts more to say something.”
