Fence Vol. 1 by C.S. Pacat

it's fun, i do wanna read the rest... it's just, why is it so short? i'm pretty sure this series could be one book (comic book?), like, why separate everything when it doesn't make sense?

This one was great. Possibly one of the best short stories I've read. Still four stars though, because I haven't read a short story that felt complete in itself yet.

(This review is about the novel, not the manga/comics, because I've given up on trying to figure out which edition is which or whatever.)
So here's my main takeaway: this novel needed to be shorter.
Having watched the series and read the manga, I really love this story. That's probably the reason I was able to stick through this whole book, even if it really tired me sometimes. I think before being published, this novel needed heavy editing. It was too repetitive, there was too much unecessary information. So, it took away from the joy of reading the story.
The worse is, we're not even done. More than 500 pages in this book, and there's more. Having read the manga, I know more or less how the story goes, and I fully believe all of it could fit into one book - a big one, sure - but ONE book that was edited and revised. Maybe two smaller ones. But as it is, it's a bit too much, and I think it may scare people who aren't already fans of the story.
I don't think I'll read the other book, to be honest. Maybe once I'm not this tired of reading so many things being repeated over and over again.
But anyways, about the story in itself, I had mostly a great time. I love their dynamic, how it develops, how the "bad b0y" is the one to catch feelings earlier, and I think even the miscummunication (which is something I deeply hate) makes sense when it happens between those two, because of their personalities and ways to view life. My only complain in that regard are the sex scenes, which feel a bit icky, dunno how to explain. Anyhow, that's it.

nunca achei que um livro com descrições tão gráficas sobre cocô seria tão legal
acho que a autora capturou bem demais o jeito de pensar de uma criança de 11 anos, toda hora eu ficava tipo: meu deus eu pensava bem assim quando era mais nova

i think this last volume has kinda ruined my perception of the series. i previously really enjoyed the world, and my love for the characters kept me going when the descriptions were lacking or were too rushed. now, i'm looking back and thinking that maybe the only reason i enjoyed the series is because of the show, which i'm very fond of.
also, that sex scene really had me going “nope!”.
i think this book is unecessary, we shoud've got the ending in the previous one, and we really didn't need to extra stories.
all the extras were very… badly written. i wish i hand’t pushed myself through them. and let's not talk about how the author writers sex. the only time i didn't hate it completely was the first one, in the previous book. but the others. yikes.
all the books should've gone through some heavy editing before being published, in my opinion. they could've been great that way.

The miscommunication at the end is really not my favorite, but I still had a great time lmao

I really enjoy how much darker WuXian's abilities are here compared to the show, when we are back in the past.
