to begin i would like to say, i’m unapologetically 100% team grey. the author’s attention to details and really setting the scene was a nice touch. this was my first YA since no longer being a young adult myself but i didn’t mind it! i was looking for a little bit of a more spooky vibe and a little bit more into the lore but as a whole this was a good book especially if you’re just beginning to get into this genre!

my first book by Simone St. James and it didn’t disappoint. admittedly, it took me 3/4 of the book to really get invested. i enjoyed the dual timelines and the ending. i could’ve done without the love story because they generally feel forced but i understand the need to entangle the past with the present in this book. i found all the flashbacks incredibly interesting and i always looked forward to those point of views.

this was my first book 2023 and it did not disappoint! this book left me feeling unsettled and not sure what or who to believe. a poster child of “unreliable narrator”
