My first Mona Awad and I found it very interesting! There are so many layers to this novel, and I’m really happy that I picked it up.

What a book!!! I flew through this one in a day because one I started,  I couldn’t put it down. Really compelling story and characters, I really loved the fresh perspective of this retelling. I think it helps to have read Jane Eyre, but it’s not necessary.

This took me a little bit to get into, but once I did there was no stopping! I’m not usually one for court politics (tbh I’m not even sure if that’s the right term to describe the events of this book), but there were enough meaningful connections between the characters to keep me engaged. Are the people in this book noble and kind-hearted? No. Is this a happy and uplifting book? Also no. But it was a fascinating look at the time period, and the role gender played in that era. I’m honestly not sure if I will read the second one, but this was a great foray into a political fantasy.

There wasn’t anything that stood out to me as being glaringly wrong about this book, I just found that I wasn’t excited to pick it up. Onto the next!

I didn’t love the first two installments of this series, but my partner picked this one up for me at the library and I’m glad to report this book flowed much better than the first two books.

Loved this romance so much!!! This was a great grumpy/sunshine iteration and fairly spicy 🌶️ I was giggling and kicking my feet in the air
