“Young person worry: What if nothing I do matters?
Old person worry: What if everything I do does?”
I loved this, stream of conciseness writing about the protagonists feelings of impending doom, but somehow witty.

This book left me completely in awe. In awe of the characters, their growth, their empathy, and their strength. In awe of the brilliant writing by R.F Kuang. The way she weaves the magic of translation into every aspect of the story. And in awe of the impact it had on me, the impact I’m sure it leaves on everyone.
“That is just what translation is, I think. That’s all speaking is. Listening to the other and trying to see past your own biases to glimpse what they’re trying to say. Showing yourself to the world and hoping someone understands.”

3.5. I loved Motherthing by her, and I enjoyed most of this book, but the ending threw me off a bit.
I already know this will be my favorite read of 2024. This character driven story is told so beautifully and unraveled in such an unexpected but stunning way.
4.5 frustrated because I’m still on hold for the second book and I’m impatient! Obviously loved this.
3.5 Read this for book club, not something I probably would’ve picked up myself, and loved it. It was a really fun read.
