Wow, this behemoth of a book! š
Iāll start off by saying that even though I didnāt like this quite as much as Words of Radiance, I still really enjoyed it!! Something that Iāve really enjoyed throughout this series is the flaws of the main characters, and man were they going through it in this one. I wonāt go into too much detail, but I will say that I found myself kind of frustrated by some of the choices they were making, human as they were. But Iām still looking forward to continuing the series! My biggest critique of the writing in this one is really just that I didnāt enjoy how often the POV was switching during big moments. I felt like I finally got one of promised āsanderlanchesā in this one and every time we switched perspectives it pulled me out of the story.
Unfortunately, I didnāt love this book like I thought a would. A fantasy, locked-room murder mystery checks all of my boxes, but I just didnāt love the authorās writing style. I found the MCās inner monologue quite annoying and I thought there were some pacing issues. 12 days is a long time to be locked in with a murderer and not find out whatās going on.
I also thought the sex scene at the end felt forced and out of place.
Overall, not a bad book, but not for me š«¤

This series definitely deserves all of the hype that it gets! Is it super realistic? Probably not. There were a few plot holes/ things that I just didnāt buy, but man was it entertaining. If I could have, I would have totally binged these, but the novellas were only available from my library separately, so I had to wait for each one to become available. While I thought some parts of the story were a little predictable, I genuinely had no idea how it was going to end, and I felt like as we got closer to the end there were even more possibilities for which way it could go. While I do highly recommend this series. I would also highly recommend checking the trigger warnings as there is a lot of graphic and violent content.
I really enjoyed this book, like a lot more than The Way of Kings! I felt like we got more into the actual plot of the series, and I thought that there was a lot of really great character development. I liked that we got to spend a lot of time in Shallan's point of view and learned more about her backstory. As of now she's probably my favorite character. I'm excited to continue to series!
A rivals-to-lovers romcom that's as sweet as the confections they're baking!
Magda and Mac, respective owners of a bakery and coffee shop in their small hometown, have been feuding for the last 14 years. The town knows the basics- something about a stolen family recipe, or maybe it was a swiped location on the town's square- but no one knows the what really started the decade of glares and avoiding each other. So when Magda gets the call that she's been cast for the new season of The Great American Cake-Off she's ecstatic to finally live out her dream of being on the show, until she gets there and finds Mac already on set. Turns out this season has a twist and each baker will have a rival in the kitchen. Now Magda will have to do whatever it takes to win- and keep the producers from finding out the real reason behind their feud.
This book honestly felt like it was written just for me with all of the GBBO and show tune references. Throw in a second-chance romance with a little forced proximity and I was an absolute goner.
I thought the banter in here was top-tier and it had me actually laughing out loud. Our two love interests have so much chemistry and tension that they gave they saying "if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen" a whole new meaning. Though, this is a closed door romance for those of you who prefer that. I really loved Magda's character and found that I related to her quite a bit. It was a joy to see her character develop and find both self-fulfillment and love.
This is the 6th book in the Pine Hollow series, and since I haven't read the rest of the series, I can only guess from context clues that Magda and Mac's feud has been featured in the other books. However, I thought the author did a really good job of laying out their backstories and making this totally readable as a standalone. I'll definitely be going back and reading all the books in this series though!

I understand what people mean when they say this book is different from Ali Hazelwoods other novels š
This book was about 50% plot/50% spice, which is really teetering on the edge of what I prefer to read (I like for my romances to be on the deeper side) but what plot there was, was interesting enough that I was fully captivated. It was dramatic, and messy, and spicy, and I really ate it up!
This book is definitely the set up for the series, I felt like we spent the majority of the time getting to know the characters and the world, and setting up the plot versus advancing it. Which is fine! Itās an interesting world and I do feel invested in the characters now. Iām excited to see where the series goes and looking forward to starting Words of Radiance!
This was such a fun holiday romance! It was as sweet as a Hallmark Christmas movie, but with some added spice š¶ļø.
I thought the characters were well developed and I really enjoyed the grumpy/sunshine dynamic that MCs had. Often times it can feel like a character is grumpy just for the sake of the trope, but I felt like Noelle actually had a personality that was relatable and I understood her disposition. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter in this book! I was laughing out loud at a lot of the exchanges, and I was very much a fan of the reoccurring threats of egging houses. If you are a fan of holiday romances I have no doubt that youāll enjoy this one!

While I didnāt love this one quite as much as Ninth House, I still really enjoyed it. The story takes a bit of a step further into the supernatural in this book, and overall just has a different vibe. But I absolutely loved how the cast of characters banded together to form an unlikely group. I am very much looking forward to any future books in this series.
