A very good children's book, I could tell I would have enjoyed this book very much as a tween. But I was expecting more of the movie.

Last week I was introduced to the Dragon School short novel series by Sarah K. L. Wilson. I read the first six books in two days! These short novels are about 150 pages long and have a complete plot arch. They also manage to end on a cliffhanger at the same time.

The first book follows the adventure of Amel, a crippled girl who decides to leave her family and become a dragon rider. She feels like a burden to her large family since she cannot help out with the farm chores, and no one will marry her. The Dragon School must accept anyone who wants to join as a dragon rider or as a servant.

When it comes time to choose her dragon, the dragon chooses her instead. Raolcan, the purple dragon, is the highlight of each book. A sassy dragon, who underneath all of his scales, truly cares for Amel.

Review #2: *clears throat*
AHHHHHHHHHHH!
Ok now that is out of the way.
I was afraid for the characters (especially Leng and Hubric!) throughout this part.
Amel had to do some growing up in this episode and you saw a softer more venerable side of Hubric as he realized he only could rely on Amel. You are starting to understand in this world why Leng choose Amel. With betrayal and distrust running deep between dragon colors, Magika, and fellow purple dragon riders.
A huge battle between the dragons and the Dusk Covenant take place and a HUGE character reveal turns the tide.
I would write a longer review if it didn't spoil it because so many things happened in this episode.

Review #1: Amel grew up a bit in this one. Hubric is just the kind of person she needed in her life. Their interactions are second only to the dialogue between the Amel and her dragon. THE REVEAL AT THE END!! I'm freaking out over here.

These short stories are perfect for when you are in the mood for historical mystery. I read these over a week.
