"Although the body often healed, the mind and heart were never the same.”
⛲💀
I was reading and listening at the same time to double the mysterious ghostly story vibes.
This book is so good! It's split in time, past and present are over a century apart and connected throughout with the short chapters of jumping from past to 1988.
It's spooky, it's dark at times, funny and emotional sometimes and there's a whole lot of mystery that keeps you hooked until the end.
You think you know what will happen in the next chapter and you miss the mark(pun intended) every time.
I preferred the 1988 timeline, but 1860 did also have an interesting storyline that was exciting and sad to read about.

"As a child, Ember would imagine making wings of fabric and jumping off of Mount Pietan. She would soar over the wall into the sea beyond. Ember knew now that was impossible, but the fantasy was enthralling regardless. In another kingdom, her secrets wouldn’t matter."
🐉
This was soooo much more than I expected, and I did expect a lot, just by adoring that cover. Look how gorgeous it is!
I stayed up till 4 am because I couldn't stop reading and needed more answers to the mysterious twists that were thrown at us by the end.
This world is so beautiful, still with prejudices and cruelty, but with so many fantastic characters, with layers and scales 👀 and secrets that were revealed and had me gasping sometimes.
There was a death of a character that I will not be talking about and will refuse to acknowledge it ever happened because it was devastating. I'm cried. I was sobbing in the dark of the night with everyone else asleep in the house. I will not forgive Rebecca for that.
But I am grateful to be part of her ARC team and to have a chance to read this gorgeous book. There's fated mates trope that usually repulses me, and here I was wanting more of it because it was so sweet and beautiful and I loved it!
Main character was raised by two moms, two amazing fated souls and I needed to acknowledge this because this was very important to the story, and to me. I was jealous of Ember right there.
Queer fantasy with dragons, merfolk and so many more amazing creatures, that is short and sweet and has heart and a gorgeous cover. I don't think you need any more reasons to pick this up 💜

“I loved it, especially the characters and worldbuilding. I think you’ll enjoy it.”
This is a quote from this book, and it perfectly sums up how I feel about the book.
I loved everything about this book, it was perfect for me, well, nearly perfect, and I'm hoping that one thing will be added to the story in the next book.
Plus-sized blue haired ND main character that looks like me and is constantly overthinking, I related to her on a deep level.
It has diverse characters, ghost dogs and sentient house, plant magic and small witchy business, witchy book club and ancient mushroom lady.
Despite looming darkness in every corner, this was a cozy read. Ghost dogs, Maggie and Griffin are the best, I'd die for them and for that cheeky sentient house. By the way, that house could and would kill someone for you, literally.
I can not wait to read more from the author and hopefully see Maisie go vegan.

"Every thing is more than one color.
Every thing is more than one shape."

If you could be a baby again and live your life freshly in an almost perfect world without hunger and illness, would you do it?
I mean, probably, yeah, that world sounds amazing and I kind of want to be seeped.
Gentle alien invasion that improves quality of life? Sign me the seep up 😻
I loved how this book was weird and cozy and emotional and funny and everything that makes a book memorable.

“How can a book hurt me?”
“See these symbols? My grandma always told me never to mess with that stuff.” Hector shook his head and handed the book back to her. “Seriously. You could get hurt.”
“They’re just symbols.”
Imagine if "devil wears Prada" and "mean girls" had a demonic baby, this book would be exactly that. Fast and fun, horror with a sprinkle of fashion industry and the ghouls that look glamorous but could eat you, literally. I picked this up for #transrightsreadathon as soon as I learned that there's a NB character and I didn't expect them to be this awesome and interesting. In the end you can literally hear the book whispering"hail seitan" or maybe it was Satan, I'm not sure, that might have been just voice in my head. You will need to read and find out yourself, what exactly lurks in the shadows of the blinds in glamorous building full of people and not exactly people. Also, the narrator was great and I loved every second of this book.

"Monsters don't look like anything, doux-doux. That's the whole point. That's the whole problem.”
This book was incredible! Beautiful and heartbreaking, I don't know what I expected but it surpassed all my expectations! I stayed up until 5 am to finish it because I couldn't stop. The prose! The quotes! It's almost entirely quotable! And the narrator is amazing! You might think I'm using exclamation marks too much, but actually they're not enough, this book is life-changing and it has the sweetest coming out story and the most supportive parents and I might have teared up and cried several times.

This book is so much fun to read and to listen! I thought the first book had narration on point but there's 3 of them voicing characters in this one! I loved all the POVs and wanted more and got more. Picking this up for #transrightsreadathon was an easy decision since I loved the first book. Also aliens mocking us for only having one planet and barely visiting our only moon was hilarious. Can't wait to read the third book in the trilogy, good thing it comes out in about two weeks.

"He’s like a Russian doll of monsters."
💀🪆🧹
Social media goes hand in hand with horror. These monsters are realistic and you might even recognize some of them.
One thing Lucy Leitner does the best is keep it real and relatable and neighbourly, horror is the scariest when it's so close to reality. All of the stories were uniquely fresh and raw and bursting with guts and gore.
If you want quick horror, then pick up this short book of horror stories and enjoy the glimpses of messed up creatures that we call humans.
There was also one story that kind of tied into her other book, #badvibrations and I was squealing with excitement when I realized what it was, because I really enjoyed both books and will definitely be reading her other books.
Goes without saying that you should check content warning before reading.

"Who would watch another person die?"
💀
This family is one messed up bunch who has a lot of skeletons in their mansions. I wanted to read this book because it was similar to the movie Ready or not and I loved that premise, but it might sound similar, but it's really not. It is more fleshed out and has more backstory for every character. I loved it, and honestly, if you don't expect it to be exactly like that movie, you'll enjoy it more. That twist in the end I definitely didn't see coming and while it took me weeks to read half of the book(problem was me, not the book) I flew through the other half in one night.
Thriller with an interesting twist that is worth your time if you like books about authors and families that will do anything for their loved ones, I mean anything.
Also, there's a Krampus lurking in there somewhere and that was definitely disturbing to read about, not that other things weren't, but I didn't expect it to be here at all.
