We Weren't Looking to Be Found by Stephanie Kuehn
4.0
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC in exchange for review.
A beautiful story of friendship found in an unlikely place. Dani and Camila are roommates at Peach Tree Hills for rehab. One for drugs and alcohol. One for cutting. Both feel their parents have priorities other than their children. Both don't wan't to be there.
Through time, therapy, and mistakes, the pair find healing in different ways. But healing is different for everyone. Kuehn writes the story of 2 characters finding what they need.
Recommend for grades 8 and up.

Hooked: How Crafting Saved My Life by Sutton Foster
4.0
A fan of Sutton Foster, I was so curios as to "how crafting saved her life". I have a daughter majoring in musical theatre and that girl is ALL ABOUT THE CRAFTING.
The book wasn't what I expected, but I'm still glad I read it. I'm a sucker for a memoir. And the Sutton I listen to in song and watch on stage and screen has a story to tell. The book wasn't life changing for me, but it was fun to read in this summer season. I'm glad I read it.

Playing with Myself by Randy Rainbow

Randy Rainbow videos were the only surefire way to get a laugh out of me since November 9, 2016. Of course I wanted to read all about him in a book written by him!
I appreciated his background and the role of the strong women in his life. He is a funny dude and knowing his mom, grandmother, and so many mentors had a hand in creating that is encouraging.
His voice comes through. Reading was almost like having a conversation with him. A must read for every fan.

If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy
4.0
I cannot remember the last time I sat down and read a whole book in one day. And if you know me, you know it would take a Disney fairy-tale, with no raunch, and happily ever afters to make it happen. Bonus - there were so many Disney references thrown into the story. Extra-bonus - the stepfamily wasn't evil.
That's all I want. A cute, feel good, adult book minus the normal adult language. The reason I go to Disney parks is so I can feel like a kid again. Julie Murphy accomplished the same with this story.
(And it just so happens I chose Disneyland's 67th birthday to spend the day reading.)

By the Book by Jasmine Guillory

I had high hopes for the 2nd book in the Meant to Be series and Beauty and the Best is my favorite Disney princess movie. But this story almost seemed like it should have been a short story but extra fluff pages were added.
This was a modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Published by Hyperion, I'm sure the requirement is to use the Disney character names in some way. In July Murphy's book I thought the name placement was clever. In this book, the name placement seemed like a far reach.
I liked the idea of the retelling. But the story just went on and on. And I REALLY hoped Isabelle would have more of a backbone. Don't wait around 2 days for a guy to text you. Maybe he was waiting to hear from you!
It was an okay summer read - but too much fluff for me.

The 99 Boyfriends of Micah Summers by Adam Sass
4.0
What a lovely summer read meant for high schoolers or people who want to feel like they're in high school again. Micah fantasizes about his first date and when it finally happens, it's just like a fairy tale. But there is a reason fairy tales are fantasy. And sometimes the fantasy isn't all it's cracked up to be.
I loved this story of young love, first times, close friends, and close family. There were no villains in the book. In fact, the protagonist was dealing with faults of his own. But it was a happy ending for most and a great "can't put the book down" read.
Recommend for high school and up.

One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus
4.0
I know. It took me forever to read this book I should have read a long time ago. Teens clamor to get their hands on this book and now it's a series. It was way past time for me to read.
This reads like a Breakfast Club murder mystery. I like the ending McManus at which arrived. It was sad, scary, a little suspension of disbelief - but I see why the kids are into it. While we have this in our middle school library, I'd recommend for grades 8 and up. I think high schoolers would get a bit more out of the story. Now I'm off to watch the movie to see if it did the book justice.

Get the Job!: How to Conquer LinkedIn and Own Your Future by Omar Garriott, Jeremy Schifeling
5.0
Thank you, #NetGalley, for the ARC of Linked.
This timely read comes to me as my husband is looking for a new job and because relocation is on the table, I may be as well.
Linked is appropriate for all ages looking for jobs. However, as middle agers in the market, my husband and I needed to read this. LinkedIn has become just as important as the resume, if not more so. Who are you? What do you stand for? Will you fit in with the company? This is what hiring employers want to know.
Starting with baby steps of setting up a profile to advanced methods of networking with recruiters, Linked should be in every adult library. The perfect gift for a graduate starting out, a friend changing careers, or the 50-something whose company is closing down, this book will be appreciated by multitudes.
Thanks, Omar and Jeremy. (After the casual tone of the prose, I feel we're on a first name basis.) You knew just what we needed.

Consumed: The Need for Collective Change: Colonialism, Climate Change & Consumerism by Aja Barber

Absolutely think this is required reading for everyone. It does warn against slave labor in fast fashion...but it also encourages you to be responsible if you do buy fast fashion.
Read it. Know it.

Walt's Apprentice: Keeping the Disney Dream Alive by Dick Nunis
4.0
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC.
Full disclosure: I am a full Disney freak. So of course a behind the scenes look at the beginning of Disney parks is something I am already passionate about. Getting Dick Nunis' perspective was like being a fly on the wall.
He writes his views and sides of each story - he doesn't paint a different picture than he sees. He admits to being no nonsense and strict with Cast Members and contractors. The bits of his personal life let us see the man he is. But I was in it for takes on Walt Disney and life after Walt passed away.
Love this book and should be added to any Disney fan's library.
