The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I didn't love this as much as other friends did or other Reid books. It was super slow for me in the beginning. As the husbands progressed, so did my interest, but not enough for four stars. I give it 3 for a slightly entertaining read.

This story is just dang good. A character different than most. A love story that spans different love for different people.

Harris is a hero, but flawed. Zander, his best friend, is just plain rad. And Nory is badass and I want to be her.

The reason for 4 stars is the swearing in the book. I get it - but I can't put this in my middle school library. :( Great story. Can't wait to read more from this author.

I am a product of the 80s and I know all of Jennifer Grey's media stories. Her side was better. A good read if you're a fan.

I love the story of Amina, working through middle school, religion, and friendships. I see every middle school girl relating to her - even if the cultural background and religion are different, the similarities are there.

A beautiful story about forgiveness and standing up for what is right.

A middle grade story that offers depth and contemplation. The servant life in Pakistan is not a fair life. Some work for actual employment. Some are "taken" to pay off debt.

The story of Amal was inspired by Malala Yousafzai. Amal is smart, goes to school, and reads among the best. When her mother has another baby, she stays home to help the family. When she stands up for herself at the market to the wrong person, she is quickly taken to pay off her father's debt.

The stories of the servants are vast and these things happen in today's time. A culture so different from America, this should be required reading for every middle school student.

Fantastic opportunity for teens to learn about fast fashion, how to change their spending habits, and using critical thinking before shopping. Lots of good ideas and ethical places to patronize.
Somebody Feed Phil the Book: The Official Companion Book with Photos, Stories, and Favorite Recipes from Around the World by Phil Rosenthal

We watch the show religiously, we saw him on his tour, so it makes sense we would read Phil Rosenthal's book! The book is a great companion to the show with some behind the scenes looks. There are recipes, but I think they are beyond my limited domestic capabilities. I'm like Phil - I don't want to make the food. I just want to eat it.

Read if you're a fan!
