  • Plot- or character-driven? Character
  • Strong character development? Yes

3.0

Eh, I'll give it three stars simply because it kept me reading.
The good:
  • Broder's rendering of an eating disorder was spot-on
  • Occasional moments of wit
  • Main character was v fleshed out and I enjoyed developing, as the book went on, an understanding of her inner world
  • Interesting commentary on desire (I guess lol)
  • Tbqh I enjoyed the mommy kink stuff... sue me
The bad:
  • The way she fetishizes fat people... oooof that is some MAJOR objectification under the guise of love BS and I hated it
  •  The ending was sooo rushed—talk about jarring
  • I could just tell from reading it that the main character was Broder (and that Broder is hopelessly self-indulgent)
  • Lots of weird sex stuff that was simply in there for shock value
  • So many parts were wayyy too on the nose. I.e., Broder does not trust the reader enough to read between the lines
  • The dreams...

Did not finish book. Stopped at 52%.
Eh, mainly the Zionism apologist stance. (And I decided that being religious just isn’t for me after being curious about Judaism for quite some time.) There are exceptionally insightful tidbits in this book though, particularly about personal and collective trauma. I may return to this book in the future.
