A wonderful, and different perspective on how paying closer attention to the physical world through nature and art can be a powerful choice and alternative to the habit of the internet and social media.

A passage that really resonated:

"I am personally unsatisfied with untrained attention, which flickers from one new thing to the next, not only because its shallow experience or because its an expression of habit rather than will, but because it gives me less access to my own human experience."

What a beautiful book. A new look at areas of our world that are often unexplored to inspire even more appreciation for our planet and the environment.

I highly recommend listening to the interview with Macfarlane on the On Being podcast prior to reading this. For me, the interview gave the books' message even more weight and urgency.

A great first book to read in my aspirations to be a bird nerd.

What a treasure.

I loved this book so much. It was a heartwarming story of rehabilitation and a great reminder of the powerful relationship between animals and humans. I want a donkey now :)
