Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Finishing this book was like swallowing nails. I literally cannot describe how much I hated this one. While I think the cringe stuff necessary to this story, I just think the writing could've been MUCH better
The best part of this book was the way it talked about grief. The grief of losing a dad that's still alive, and the realization that it really is better to have something and lost it, rather than never having it at all.
I think since I've seen the movie I wanted more. A dual POV would've been PERFECT for this book, because I wanted to learn more about Oliver, his grief of losing his father. The book felt so different from the book. I liked it. I felt the romance was lacking, but I could understand it not being the exact point of the book. Great descriptions of anxiety, loss, and family. Really nice.
When my grandpa passed away, it felt like a hole was left in my chest. It felt like I was moving forward without ever really going anywhere. Clementines grief, it healed me in some ways. Some things last, and others don't, so just enjoy life.
A solid 3.0 stars. I felt like the book started very slow, and was somewhat predictable for me. But the way Ashley Poston describes grief, and love, and the ending....it wrapped up so beautifully.
A cute one. And I yes I cried. Spoiler: BENJI ANDOR WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE BABY!!! The Dead Romantics cameo is 10/10
At first, I thought this book was...boring. But something about it made me want to keep reading. Hearing the story of David Starr Jordon, and the way it twists and turns from something of almost hope to this evilness inside him, and the way that Lulu Miller is able to see the lesson behind the scope of what Jordon stood for, and then convey it an a way that had me in tears...it's otherworldly. I don't know what my fish is yet, or at least I don't think I do. But I will try to let go.

I give this one a solid 3.25
Pros
A brooding, dark-haired man, who I felt was more of a black cat type than an asshole (which I was worried for initially). Adam's character is truly written in the female gaze, and I feel the author did a wonderful job of noting the small details of his personality.
Women in STEM! I LOVE WOMEN IN STEM!!
Chapters 15-17
No bullshitting! There was no parts that dragged out! A win.
Cons
Fake dating trope. Not my cup of tea, but I did like how this one played out.
Olive, I love women in STEM but who are you? I felt like Olive's character was very simple, and while I have not been through a STEM PhD program, I do think my girl should've had some kind of hobby good lord.
Edit: WAIT the other con was the way they kept bringing up diabetes?? And making slight fat jokes, not a fan of that part of the dialouges.
