▪️As the first American to ever study in North Korea, Jeppesen tells his experience of living, traveling and studying in the hermit kingdom. This book is a portrait of the country in the Kim Jong Un era.

▪️From the beginning it felt like I too was embarking on this journey and the feeling stayed until the very end. I attribute that to Jeppesen’s unpretentious writing style, making the reader an insider instead of an outsider to this experience.

▪️Although I’ve already learned so much about North Korea from other books, this one brought so many unique insights and perspectives that I would recommend as a great first book if you are interested in getting to know more.

▪️Although by now I don’t get as surprised as before by some of the facts, still some were shocking.

▪️Most of the places the author visited are not included in the general North Korea tours so it was interesting to be able to go there with him even if in a literary way.

▪️Definitely one of the best books I’ve read about North Korea and certainly one of the best I’ve read this year!

▪️First things first, from the get go this felt 100% like a Harry Styles type of fanfiction.

▪️An interesting premise: a 39 year old woman starts a “relationship” with the 19 year old teen idol her daughter loves.

▪️At first I was not convinced but with the progress of the book I started getting more invested. The plot is definitely very steamy and has drama. Actually I’d say

→ As soon as I saw this book around, I knew I had to read it. Not only Titanic is part of my childhood but also was very interesting to get a different perspective of the Chinese immigrants that were actually passengers aboard although this story is pure fiction.

→ This book focuses a lot around the bond between the two twin brothers and I enjoyed that. I also liked the dynamics between the Chinese immigrant workers although I think it could have been better explored.

→ For me this book is a solid 3 stars. It had its moments of action, intrigue, romance and sadness but the flow of the story wasn’t wow for me to be 4 or 5 stars.

→ Nonetheless I’m happy I got to read it and was most of the time an enjoyable read.

The book I didn’t know I needed

I’m late to the party but finally managed to finish Six of Crows. I started off strong but a reading slump happened so you could say I’ve been savoring this book for the last months

[★★★ and an half]
→ Re-read [2nd time]

The first time I read this book, I rated it 4 stars as I had done with Vampire Academy. After re-reading it, although I think Frostbite is better than Vampire Academy in terms of plot and characters development, I still don't think it has the same impact as the next books in this series; so that's the reason, now having the perspective of the whole books, that I gave this one only 3 stars and and half.

I wished there was more Romitri moments but the last scene of them two is just beyond perfect. Definitely Adrian gets better in terms of development along the series but I thought he had a really good presence in this one. Overall all it was a good re-read and I always love being in Rose's head (:
