I like how Winstead crafts a mystery and would like to read more from her. These characters, though, were terrible people (not poorly written, just actual bad people) and it made the book less enjoyable for me that they didn't receive proper retribution.

If you read the synopsis and think you're the type of person who would like this book, then I can almost promise that you will like this book. It knows exactly what it is and wears it with pride. The internet speak in spoken dialogue was just a touch too much for me.

I almost feel bad eating this as low as I am, because I know it is beloved. And truly, the writing is a stand out, and I will definitely look for other works by Madeline Miller. I just can't get over how much I dislike Achilles. Which isn't the author's fault, she characterizes him well. Patroclus is a great POV and I adored seeing the story through his eyes.

I'm not usually a sci-fi reader, but this book was really captivating with its character and the way everything unfolds. It was very enjoyable. A couple of the parts get a little bogged down in scientific explanation, but listening to it on audiobook helped me power through those parts and it was more than worth it.
