There were definitely some GEMS in here, but others make my nose scrunch...

I mean, we went from:

*My tears were a prelude to my own happiness.
Just know my smile is the signature my soul writes.*

...to...

*I’m no backburner.
I’m the whole entire oven*

I started this book because I wanted to compare it to the film. I hated this book when I started it: it was cringey, I didn't root for any of the characters, I wasn't engrossed in the story at all. I put the book down and told myself I'd probably never come back to it.
Somehow I picked it up again and actually finished the book? I still didn't root for any of the characters as I felt they were pretty one dimensional most of the time, but I still kind of got into the book as well. I gasped when *things* happened, I laughed when I called out a plot point before the characters realised it, and I loved Alyssa and Marshall.
I don't like this book, I wouldn't recommend this book, and I wouldn't ever read it again. But, I am still adult enough to admit that it was not the worst book I have read. There were parts that did grip me and lines I really liked, but they were ultimately overshadowed by everything I didn't like about the book.

I love love LOVE Caraval so it was so nice to be welcomed back 💛
I'm not going to lie, Tella did annoy me at first, but I really enjoyed the book as a whole so I forgive her haha. It's also just the kind of person she is, but my favourite characters are never the ones who are so blinded by what they want that they don't think of others... But it also shows good writing that a character can make you feel like that!
Despite this, I still loved the book and will definitely be reading it again and again

Can see this book being a young person's gateway into the genre. Easy to read, short, tense but not as tense as I like my books. Not a bad read

I was a bit dubious about the tale when I started it, but I loved it by the end! The ending was so creepy and I really enjoyed it.
The metaphor of the woman in the wallpaper versus our narrator's mind was so good! She is subdued and stifled in the day, when her husband or Jennie or others are around, but is free to run at night.

Very Bluebeard-esque with some Mr Rochester thrown in. Really loved the writing, the direct address in the beginning made you *feel* Galatea and what she was going through. The ending was beautifully melancholic

Was given a copy of this for free, realising now I would not have picked it up based off the blurb or the cover.

Completely unrealistic, nothing was believable or grounded in any sort of regular world that would MAKE it believable, I didn't root for any of the characters, and none of the twists felt authentic.
Everything was pushed in for shock factor and none of it worked, to be honest. The writing felt like it was a quick dash to get a story written in two hours and the story was not engaging at all. To write a story with that much drama and for it not to be engaging is tough, but this novella definitely did it...
