You know, it was a pirate book.

I thought a lot of the elements were cool,
especially the scar on her arm turning out to be a map, I thought that was smart.

On the other hand, I wouldn't say anything particularly stood out. It was a pirate book, it was cool, I enjoyed it as a light read.

I really love the writing style of this book! It’s perfectly fairy tale-y and in general well done, and I love it.

The plot was also very interesting,
especially when she was Alice-Three-Times because seriously how did I not see that coming?? It was right there??

Did I understand a lot of the science? God no. Was it very cool? Yes. Especially since it weirdly linked up to my bio and history curriculum.

This whole thing is a masterpiece, I love it.
Especially the ending. HE’S WITH ROCKY!! I’m so mad we didn’t get our Grace-rants-at-Stratt moment because I was counting on that and I think it would’ve been amazing

Every single point of conflict had me going “well how are they going to solve this” and then they did and I was even more confused but even more amazed than before and I feel like I learned more about science reading this than I ever did in any of my school classes

It’s hard to explain what I thought, honestly. I thought it was great, the Victorian vibes ate and the characters were top notch.

I think my main issues were with the plot, surprisingly. I didn’t like Harrow’s emphasis on getting Gideon to sleep with Rune, it makes sense in the story but I’m just personally not a huge fan of the situation in general. Killing off Alex also just felt like a convenient way for the author to remove a love interest so the main focus would be entirely on Gideon.

I did enjoy the magic system quite a lot, I thought the way it functioned was amazing and it made sense, it was easy to follow.

Good book!

It feels wrong to rate this book, so I’m not going to.

Honestly, changed my whole perspective on death row. I listen to true crime avidly, so I’ve developed a strong sense of justice for the victims of murder. I’ve always felt a little iffy about death row, but one quote really confirmed my belief that it’s wrong. “Justice demanded a life for a life. Retribution. The perpetrator should not live while the victim has no choice. People on death row had earned their spots on death row, and Justice cannot be consumed with protecting the rights of the guilty. But the system didn’t know who was guilty. I wasn’t blind. There is a moral difference between kidnapping and murdering a man, and imprisoning and executing a man. There is no moral equivalence, even when both things end in death. But death has never deterred death. And we can’t be sure of guilt, save for admission of guilt. A person could believe in the death penalty and still believe it should be ended, because men are fallible and the justice system is fallible.”

This book was really wonderful.

There were a lot of points where I wasn’t sure how it was all going to tie back together, or how it would possibly end. This author is amazing because every single moment mattered and the way as a reader you felt like you were almost reliving the beginning of the novel. It was such a strange experience to read this book but it was the good strange.

I feel like for me this is a series that requires me to be in a very specific headspace for me to understand. I was in this headspace when I started the book, and was not in it by the end. I understand what happened vaguely enough so I could read the next book, but I’m not entirely sure I could have a full conversation about this book.

This book was way better than the other two in the trilogy, and wow I wish I would’ve finished it out the first time.

The whole plot arc was wonderful, and each character changed so well

Especially Jean Luc wow I was NOT expecting to like him ever

And then Ansel still being brought up throughout the book HURT ME. Especially at Lou’s wedding I think I cried a little

Reading this felt like watching a Studio Ghibli movie

Do I really know what happened? ...not really?

Do I know it was cool? For sure

That's the best way to explain this I guess
