if you felt that the ending was a twist, a shock, out of place, i ask you to please consider what the role of the woman was in this book, and quite similarly in the movie. women are invisible, excluded, and yet the conclave could not run without them. they cook. they clean. they counsel. over all, they serve. is it not fitting for the conclave to elect pope innocent xiv to bridge the gap between man and woman in the church?

rereading and coming across all the notes I wrote in it when I was 18 and 20. six years later I am still waiting for someone to come into my kitchen and be hungry for me. i am still dying from being eager to use my heart and get my body touched. and then I remember I am an example of a specific way of spending time and feeling existence in this world and well! I die.
