Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

This book is surprisingly really good, and I couldn't put it down. However, I didn't like the ending, although I can't exactly say it wasn't expected. I also didn't like the way that people talked to Lennie or about Crooks, but it all makes sense when you take into account the time period that the book is written in, which is the great depression.I mean, the copyright year is 1937, so obviously it's not going to be really politically correct.

Even with those tiny things that bothered me, I enjoyed it immensely and couldn't put it down.

I don't know what it is about these books, but the pacing isn't ideal, for me, and it seems like when I put them down, I don't want to pick them back up. They just don't hold my attention. I think I'm just kind of over love triangles and novels where a teen, or group of teens, lives in a future dystopian society. That's not to say that this is a bad book, because it is well written, and there isn't any real foul language, so it's an okay book for kids to read once they're able to, but it just kind of bores me.

If you like Dystopian novels, then by all means, pick and up and read it. But if you're kind of bored by that idea at the moment, wait a while to pick this series up.

It took a while for me to get into it, but after the first hundred or so pages are over, it picks up a lot.

Now if only Dashner would stop blowing holes in my ship with his insistence that Thomas likes girls.
