Regardless of the trashy sequels, I like this book and I'm not ashamed to say it. I feel like it's a read where you don't need to focus and you can just skim. To be honest, this and The Hunger Games started the YA Dystopian trend. Tris lives in a city (the name is revealed in Allegiant) and there are 5 factions, everyone has to act a certain way according to the faction rules. Abnegation are selfless, Dauntless are Brave, Amity are peaceful, Candor honest and Erudite are intelligent, before choosing day, every 16 year old has to take a test to see WHAT factions they show aptitude for.
Tris gets 3, meaning she is Divergent.

I understand that people call this book the wanna be hunger games, I feel sorry for this book which lives with that. The majority of this book is actually pretty creative, even with the cliches and borrowed ideas by the end. Tris is alright in this book but if you compare her to Katniss, Katniss reigns supreme. The factions were cool but people would say that they are borrowed from the districts, but these factions actually smother parts of your personality.
I honestly want the factions if I end up being alive during a dystopia.

Skipped to the end after page 20.
Still counting it as a challenge book since I read the last 2 pages.
This book fell short because, from the very first page, it bores you. I expected it to be complex, it was simple but simple fantasy stories can be good, this one wasn't. The worldbuilding was next to none and I cared not a bit about any of the characters. I was disappointed because I was expecting a bada** main female lead. The author needs to follow every english teacher's advice and "show not tell"
We are told that the main character is special, yeah yeah we get it but where's the proof.
We are told not shown and I feel like the English teachers of the world right now are face palming or shaking their heads in dismay

Putting down for now. I couldn't really get into Book 4 either. Books 1-3 were the best.
Maybe I'll pick it up but I'm not too sad if I didn't.

Twilight and New Moon are the only good books in this series.
