If You Could See the Sun by Ann Liang
things i did like:
- the "gay" cover up by henry
- the "passing out" stunt by henry
- the heart to heart convo between henry and alice in the train
- she calls her dad baba {i didn't know east asians did that too}
- the way she embarrassed jake (blackpink video w him screaming bs in front of the whole class)
- henry's meet w alice's parents "are you dating my daughter" "yes" that was gold but {heres the hate} he didn't make sure if alice wud be okay with the idea of them dating? he assumed.
- alice confronting dr walsh
- the no-romance at all
- the kiss was written really well, coming from someone who hates romance
- the message of the book ofc.
- he unexpected ending. I didn't think she'd ACTUALLY have to leave Airington.
things i didn't like:
- people taking the invisibility thing vv lightly {if it were only the aunt it would hav been fun because shes an aloof and weird kind of a person. but henry and chanel too? so not believable}
- her first thought being "oh i shud go to henry" she hated him. the only way i think henry could hav been involved is if she turned invisible RIGHT in front of his eyes. like both of them are bickering or smth and *whoosh* there she goes
- the friendship between chanel and alice. it was a friendship of convenience. there was hardly any development. one moment they're strangers, the other they're b f f s
- the friendship between chanel and henry. what even? like did neither of them hav no other friends? the second alice befriends them THEY befriend eachother too?
- why did Mr. Murphy let go of the fact that security footage doesn't show alice AT ALL so easily?
- alice sitting beside henry in class {what was she thinking?} she looks so desperate and it doesn't make sense because she HATES henry and she's convinced henry hates her too. henry hardly showed interest in her in the beginning and i get it he's spposed to be sToiC and all but alice didn't know it.
- henry didn't make sure if alice wud be okay with them dating when he told her dad "yes"? he assumed. they hadn't ever had that sorta conversation before. i dont approve
yes even though the parts i hate are way more in number and significance, it's still almost four stars because i had a good time reading it and my bsf (loved and) recommended it to me duh
