literally, read this book by the pool when I went home to visit family, so the vibes were perfect. I sat by the pool and ignored impending doom that was the idea of going back to work. This book was a fun distraction. That being said, that was probably 2 weeks ago so who knows how weighty this review will actually be. Funny You Should Ask is about a writer girl whose name escapes me and an actor that definitely has a name, but I just called him Chris. I know that this is based on a real story and I think the idea to make that story into a fiction rom-com was definitely worth something. That being said, you can easily tell when the story goes from an adaptation of a story to a brand new fix-all narrative. It felt so realistic and grounded until they took a private jet to hallmark land and everything worked out beautifully, with no plan at all.
I had really hoped that this book would sustain the grounded real-life feel in spite of its subject matter. I was hoping for a watered-down Emily Henry, but the last view chapters just left me with a beefed-up Wattpad.

That being said I can't discount the fact that I enjoyed the first 75% of the book, so overall I think it was a success.
Cons:
- hallmark endings should be left to Lacey Chabert
- the Chris Evans character felt so one-sided. He was just a dude who was an actor. he felt so unoriginal and unmotivated compared to the main character and her fleshed out
Pros:
- Chris Evans is hot so like I wasn't mad about the love interest.
Theories and Questions:
- how much of this was just self-insertion to a story that the author wished had happened to herself?
