Surprisingly one of my favorite classics. I just like the ideas and the stories. Don’t get me wrong, Dante himself is infuriating, but I was genuinely captivated by the poem and it’s structure.

Literally love this book so much. Love the characters, the romance, and the world. It’s such a refreshing read and the pace is perfect. It had just the right amount of plot and character development happening in tandem, and the twists were satisfying and well laid out/prepared.

Did I like the book? Yes. Was it good? No. Did it have a good plot? No. Was there story development? No.
The characters in this book are pretty enjoyable so that’s the main appeal, but I wish more happened. We didn’t go anywhere or accomplish anything. The relationships developed and that was satisfying for sure, but I would like to be getting other things done too. The romance is well written and enjoyable hence the rating it got, but I can’t stick through more of these books because we have literally only gotten halfway through the journey they left on in the first book? Dude we seriously couldn’t get anywhere else. Then the big twists feel so out of no where and unsatisfying in a way that makes me so turned off from the book. I probably won’t continue these books.

I really enjoyed this story. Like I’ve said before I’m a sucker for fairytale retelling so that’s a big part of it. Rosie is a very relatable character for most readers and she was endearing enough for me to look of some cliches. I actually kinda liked Vince even though most reviews didn’t. The grumpy villain who hates his life and needs a push in the right direction is a great opportunity for development. I appreciate how he grew but still maintained the integrity of his character. He didn’t become a ball of sunshine, just someone who allows himself to be happy even if he is inherently cynical.

Most of the stars for this review are for Nikolai. I want to marry him so bad it’s not even funny. I barely remember the plot of this book and I’m wondering how much of one there was. It was very slow but I’m so intrigued by the world and the story that I made it through the audiobook. The main motivation I had to continue was to see more of Nikolai. Mal and Alinas relationship is winning me over, a little bit?? But next to Nikolai, Mal feels so flat. Anyways I love the story I just wish it was faster and that the main characters were a bit more compelling.

I love these books so much. Can I please have holly black as a creative writing professor. The relationships and character development in this book are fan-freaking-tastic. I LOVE judes character arc, and the twists in the story are so well done. Judes decision making and personality are so unique and they feel very raw as you read them in real time. All around a fantastic story.

No. Just no. The world building is a really cool idea and that’s all I can say positively about this book. This book threw the first one and everything that happened in it completely out the window. Like it was such a waste of time. I swear sjm just writes by the seed of her pants and doesn’t think about where she’s going after each romantic scene to the next. I feel like I’m just reading her own sexual fantasies and I think I’m backed up by the fact that we flipped love interests because she seemed to be bored of the first one. Nothing plot wise was accomplished in this book. The secondary characters seem interesting enough I guess. Seriously though the writing in here felt so bad I had to keep doing double takes to make sure I knew what the author had said. The writing feels so cringe and unpolished.

This was fun. I listened to the audiobook while cleaning my apartment so I have barely any recollection of specific details. It’s all a blur. I liked the main girl and the love interest but their stubbornness got so frustrating. There’s only so many times you can use the same thing for conflict ya know? Too often they got angry with each other for betrayal or miscommunication or whatever and it got old. It was a fresh setting though and a cool world. I actually found the politics pretty interesting and well thought out. The spicy scenes felt well spaced out for the pace of the story. Overall a good read.

I love the characters and the story idea is awesome. The world building took me a minute and the beginning felt slow. Alina and Mal at the beginning was not my favorite and I’m still not the biggest fan of him. Their relationship feels one sided and I get bad vibes when they see each other later on. The other characters are very intriguing and the plot is interesting but not much of it moved forward in this one. The ending was good though so I’m down to keep going.
