Interesting plot points, though lacked compelling reasoning or character growth/arcs. The pacing was haphazard, and an additional 100+ pages would have been great to flush it out more. Glad I did the audiobook to keep it moving along (and Cynthia Erivo!!!).
Oh my heart! This is beautifully written, amazing characters and chemistry, and intriguing setting (war in the names of awakened divinities). Two rival column writers and many, many letters.
I don’t recommend the audiobook while driving, as it is hard to drive and cry at the same time.
A murder mystery with a dual pov- decent build up and reveals, though not as clever as I’d hope for or a mind blowing ending. A satisfactory read. I did thoroughly enjoy thinking of Scott (iykyk) while reading this!!
What a great NA fantasy romance!! I was floored by all the pieces that most authors would spend an entire book teasing out was just a few pages, so I was intrigued by what could possibly happen next and it all unfolded so well!! Only lost .5 because I can’t stand miscommunication lol!
Some interesting adventures, but I wasn’t convinced of the plausibility of them. The “you’re mine” trope/justification was overdone, and the amount of characters felt like it was trying to be a big book without making us care about or know any of them. Violet’s shortcomings seem to disappear when convenient and the set-ups and reveals are way too close together (or obvious like the poisonous blue berry. Such a clunky way to reveal.) to be satisfying.
What a mind bender! Loved it and was constantly thinking about wanting to read it when I wasn’t! Not sure why I don’t have the 5 star feeling - may just need some time to sit with it.
Loved all the storylines woven together and the complexity of the characters and their backstories/motives! Even at the end of the book, I haven’t retained all the terminology and names in the book, but can use context clues 😅 I thought if was so clever figuring it all out, and alas was still shocked!
A note about the audiobook - it is not ideal for road trips because many of the voices as done in a whisper-tone, which makes them super hard to hear, but if you turn up the volume, the regular narration is painfully loud. Otherwise, great voices and well done.
