I wish the relationship with River was more fleshed out. Their chemistry at the beginning was đź’Ż, amazing, could not be improved. But when it came to the actual relationship, it was just sex. And I guess that’s the point for River’s growth but we aren’t really shown enough of an actual relationship to make it plausible that they are truly endgame.

That was not the HEA I was expecting, nor was it the one I was wanting. Yes, it’s a HEA, but omg no. All that build up and just… THAT?! That was not a satisfactory ending, even if the bit about Assuntina was frankly hysterical.

I honestly skipped the second 1/4th of the book and didn’t miss much. It was so painfully slow and not in a good slow burn way. The second half of the book was fantastic. First half was rough and had me contemplate DNFing it. Skipping ahead was the right choice imo.  Good story but 150 pages too long. Too much inner monologue that’s really not important in any way.
