Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
4.5
Whimsical, lush, and incredibly smart, Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries is a must read for lovers of fairytales.
A shocking amount of divisiveness on this novel as it focuses on black cat Emily Wilde's quest to write the first encyclopedia of faeries. I found no qualms falling into this story with its lovable cast, glacial backdrop, and well-done epistolary structure. It had just the right balance of academic and imaginative storytelling to keep you enchanted until the end.
Personally I love a identity reveal plot in academic settings, it never fails to get a laugh out of me. All this being said I will be continuing on with the series and look forward to the next installment (which I ignorantly didn't accept when offered the arc, excuse me while I kick myself down a flight of stairs).
4.5/5 stars!

For anyone who has felt washed away from grief, "House of Frank" will envelope you with an embrace that you wished you had in your hardest moments.
Saika is a grief stricken witch who ends up on the doorstep of a magic funeral home, ready to lay her sisters ashes to rest. What she finds is a purpose, found family, and the lengths we will go through in our worst moments.
Folks, I have read a lot of books this year and this is my first full fledged 5 star book. A cozy and queer fantasy that will pluck your heartstrings without sending you over the edge into an existential crisis. Delightfully queer and full of heart, if you're looking for something akin to Under the Whispering Door, this is your next read. 5/5 stars!

"A Dark and Secret Magic" by Wallis Kinney is a ambient and dreamy brew of Halloweentown and Practical Magic.
Hedge witch Kate is preparing for her 31st birthday and confinement to only practice what she knows of her hedge magic. With her parents passed and sisters living away from their small secluded town, she learns what she can and spends majority of her time alone. A childhood friend winds up on her doorstep and begins the unraveling of her coven's lies as danger creeps closer to the sleepy hollow cottage.
For the autumnal lovers and those who prefer the changing leaves to the heat, A Dark and Secret Magic was such a sweet surprise. An older protagonist, a dreamy love story, and world building that will have you reaching for all the cinnamon teas and cozy blankets. Pick this one up for your Halloween TBR for its release on October 8th. 4/5!
