I was exceptionally angry at being duped into thinking Assistant to the Villain was a standalone novel and I'm the kind of person who needs closure.

This did not give me closure, and while I didn't love Assistant I could at least understand what the author was AIMING for. With Apprentice, I spent so much time trying to follow the train of thoughts that made no sense.

The first book in this series wanted you to feel like a Disney Princess in The Office. This book felt like it was written on a runaway train with no sense of plot cohesion, logic or reason. Evie is even more insufferable and there is literally so many things going on but nothing actually happening.
