mislabeled as 'horror', just a very plain literary thriller about motherhood and leaky nipples. boooring, and beyond that: uninteresting.

first part is 5 star quality, the way the childhood was described and felt, reminded me of mine, like i was breathing in the atmosphere of my own childhood.
then the story obviously progressed in a way that made complete sense, it did not hit as close; the last chapter made up for it <3
the writing perfectly carried the story, and i consciously liked the lack of quotation marks.

the epistolary format was great and i loved all the different characters, especially mina and van helsing 😊. as for the audio version, the narrator was amazing.

Did not finish book. Stopped at 25%.
lol. probably only good if you're an adult and have never read books before. read 20% of it then skipped to the 2 tiny chapters about fiction. useless if you're a Reader.

the book itself is not 1 star.
I was enjoying the first 40~ percent at a 3-star rating, and then it all went down. I got completely lost. I have no understanding of America's relationship with 9/11 or its music history so I did not understand a thing. I should have given it up but really wanted to finish it or "have it read" since the storygraph recs pushed it on me and it really seemed like something I would have liked had my knowledge been fitting. It was a slog to go through but I did really enjoy the writing style.

very insightful. simply and well written, gave me the basics I was looking for not knowing anything about Jung beforehand. definitely made me want to read more about his work. this book achieved what it set to do.

(originally rated and reviewed in july) - there's an idea there, the concept is a good one, and it's far from being a dumb book, however, i really felt underwhelmed by everything and wasn't seduced by the main Thing.
