Jeremy, an elusive serial killer, has a special appetite for playing with his prey. He might even enjoy the hunt more so than the actual killing. Using the Louisiana bayou as his playground, he likes to offer the illusion of the possibility of escaping to his victims. Before hunting them down and eventually killing them, he sets them free – or so they think.  His victims are unaware that they’re already at a disadvantage because of the drugs he has previously injected them with and the controlled environment they are in.

Dr. Wren Muller, a forensic pathologist, is determined to do whatever it takes to find the killer responsible for the deaths of her patients. Together with Detective John Leroux, they’ll be a team Jeremy will have difficulties staying hidden from.

The story is told in two parts and alternates between Jeremy’s perspective and Dr. Wren Muller’s perspective. I found the random bits of true facts that are sprinkled throughout this book quite intriguing. The story kept me engaged and had a good amount of suspense in it. I completely didn’t see that twist coming. When they say “jaw-dropping twist” that is accurate. While I do wish there was more of Jeremy’s story, the book comes together well.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes horror, mystery, and suspense. Could there be a book 2?

Interesting

Good rundown on possible theories, thoroughly thought out and explored. Mostly good cases, a few weird ones, however still interesting.

Loved this book! Interesting plot and kept me guessing. I didn’t see that end coming. I love how it all came together. Ending could have been more interesting, a more exciting job, but it’s still good.

Was hooked right off the bat and that’s what I loved about this book. So much mystery and excitement. I figured out the ending tho. Compelling amnesia story about a woman running from something. She doesn’t remember what but her instincts immediately kick in and she knows she’s in danger and must RUN!
Witness: For the Prosecution of Scott Peterson by Amber Frey

I loved reading Amber's view of why this situation happened to her. She draws connections between her and Lacy that are just chilling.

I'm not completely convinced that Scott killed Lacy, yeah he's a super douche - but it doesn't all fit to me. What about the home invasion next door (even Nancy Grace says there are no coincidences in a murder investigation), and the witness seeing a pregnant woman fighting with a group of men putting her in the back of a white van? Many people saw Lacy at the park that day, when Scott was already gone for the day. The mailman time with the loose dog, and the hidden jailhouse phone calls between the home invaders talking about Lacy.. it's all suspect. Why would/did the police dismiss and plain out ignore and hide evidence? Not what I'd call a good investigation.

There wasn't really any other proof Scott killed Lacy, besides Scott being a lying cheating douche. I would say he had motive (new life with Amber), but that doesn't mean he did it.

Amber's book lets us see this investigation in another way and through her eyes. I also like how she leaned on her faith to get her through. It's a great testimony.

Quality Read

Loved this story and Kerry Lonsdale's style of writing. Since reading the very first sentence of this book, I was hooked and couldn't wait to begin reading again everytime I had to put the book down. This book won’t be an easy one to put down, as the mystery, love, and loss that swirl around this book will leave you hooked into a world where family secrets can destroy everything, in very unexpected ways. Looking forward to book number two!
