When it comes to historical fiction, I am done for a good story and learning something, even if its fictional, that I might not have known before. Since I really hadn't heard of Marion Crawford before now, that is what I thought this would be.
While I liked that, as the readers, we are getting an inside look into what it was like to work for royalty, it felt a little flat for me. As a work of fiction, there were times where some of the characters felt rather whiny and not endearing in any sort of way.

While the plot twist caught me by surprise, it felt like there was some whiplash going on leading up to the twist. Even after the plot twist is revealed, I felt like there was some whiplash and repetitiveness happening, which was a bit of a let down for me. Because of that the ending felt flat to me.
