“How I love to lose to you. How I love to read your words and hear the thoughts that sharpen your mind. And how I would love to be on my knees before you now, surrendering to you and you alone.”
This was beautifully written with its creation of worldbuilding and hint of magic as well as the characters themselves. This was both hopeful and sad with so much longing, fear, passion, angst, and warmth between Iris and Roman. The tension and anticipation throughout the book kept me on edge.
I would simply rate this book 5 stars for the characters. The plot on the other hand would be 3 stars in the sequel although I can understand why it is the way it is since it is ya, nevertheless, there were some plotholes throughout the novel that makes you question some scenes.
Dacre, the god who is the antagonist in the story is such an interesting villain. I've learned more about him than Enva wherein he was crafted as someone who was wronged then taking vengeance on Enva the goddess who is nonpresent in the story which I'm still confused about. I would've loved to learn more about the gods, their powers, and their characters.
I felt unmoved in the ending and it lacked the beautiful part where everything falls into place.
I understand that there are only two books since this is the sequel but I wished it was longer. There were so many elements that needed to be discovered and explained. The reason why the first book was amazing is because of the slow pace of the story wherein it truly dives into the characters and the story itself. This one is good but again, I wish it was longer or this could have been a trilogy.

This is purely for aesthetics because the content is so bland.
Two love interests who barely know each other and are already in love? Nope.
Where Sasha says "Write me a tragedy." I was barely halfway through like what do you mean?!
This is more on words and no action. There is no build-up with the worldbuilding and the hate feels one-sided. The witches only use their oldest child for more power and reign. I don't understand the grudge against one another. This was a letdown for me.
I would've liked this if the children went against their parents, especially the oldest child since they were slaves doing their bidding.

This was a fast and thrilling read. I’ve read the some of the authors work so I’m quite familiar with the writing style.
Not your typical character driven and full of world building fantasy story since this is only a standalone. There were some lackluster moments and missing plot points but if you’re looking for a light read of fantasy then this is it.

I easily devoured reading the book with how fun and witty the story is. As someone who enjoys chess and loves the show The Queen’s Gambit. I thoroughly enjoyed this book in a whim.
I’m kind of used to how Ali Hazelwood writes so it’s expected with her typically references which might seem a lot but doesn’t bother me since its ya.
The characters are very interesting and a bit refreshing to read in a new environment, especially the idea of them playing chess.
I feel like this might be my favorite from her work so far.

It's a heartwarming and entertaining reverse grumpy x sunshine college romance about two rivals. A quick and easy read with excellent communication between the characters and lots of banter.
I was honestly surprised by how much I enjoyed this story since I didn't like the first book, nevertheless, the characters and how they were perfectly portrayed made me enjoy this book altogether. Kaia and Holden made me smile and laugh throughout the story and I really see myself in Kaia and the reliability aspect is great. Holden is such a sweetheart, so full of energy being the sunshine character.
Overall this was such a wholesome story.

If he threw me across the room and wanted to make out after that then I'll give him the middle finger and punch him but no, the heroine literally forgot what he did after a second and straight up screwed him.
I don't even want to describe how much idiocy is in this book because they were the dumbest people to exist. Even a child could figure out what is real and not and who is suspicious within the second they describe their self. I cannot even fathom how they got through life by their idiocy.
Does it hurt? oh yes, it does because this book exists.

protect this book at all costs.
A bittersweet emotional rollercoaster of a story filled with hope, sadness, and new beginnings.
It is about two people who had experienced such tragedies unite and find solace in one another. A wonderful journey filled with hardships with finding beautiful peace along the way.
" I wanted you to see me, you can see me now. "
Everything about this book captivated me, the story, the characters, and the journey. Archer is a sweet, caring, shy, hardworking person with so much love to give. Bree is the most patient, kind, and cheerful person. Both of them combined is such a wholesome duo. I want to protect their relationship at all costs with how much their story impacted me.
“You brought the silence, the most beautiful sound I’d ever heard.”
Archer and Bree are perfect, this book is perfect and I finally understand the title on a whole new level. This was just so beautiful and sad but hopeful at the same time. I never wanted to cry so badly because of this book.

It is about a mysterious, melancholy, and gothic romance with an intriguing storyline solving a murder. A very slow-paced read about a girl who cannot die and meets death itself which holds the answers as well as forming an alliance to serve the murder.
Full of intrigue and dark undertones about the setting, vibe, and mystery surrounding the manor and the people who live there. I love the foreshadowing of the little details connecting to the overall plot, and the very interesting connection between Signa and Death, including the supernatural world and its relevance.
I love the historical aspect of Signa being a woman in the 1850s with the hardships of every woman to have proper etiquette, to be shaped into a lady that is prim and proper, and the overall struggle of making sure to have a good life by marrying rich or portraying such expectations to be met with disdain by society if the certain expectations are not met. The beautiful contrast of life and hardships as well as maintaining friends and family.
