The Selection is one of those books that I really only wanted to read to figure out why it's so popular. After one of my friends finished this series and told me that she loved it I decided to finally pick it up. I was honestly surprised to find that I actually liked it. It's not the best book I've ever read and there were some aspects that I didn't really like but I just enjoyed this book for what it is.

Throughout the whole book I was annoyed at the main characters name and it kind of distracted me from really caring for the character. Honestly though, what kind of name is America Singer? She kind of seemed like the typical 'special snowflake' character, she's "not like other girls because she doesn't like wearing dresses and makeup!11!!!" I honestly don't really care about her that much. I do like the fact that she didn't fall in love with Maxon immediately (because as much as I want them to be together, that would just not be realistic.) and her friendship with the maids was really nice.

One character I didn't like at all was Celeste. She's just the typical bitchy girl character who is mean for no reason and I really hope she gets some sort of character development at some point in the series.

The character that saved the book for me was Maxon. I really really liked him. He was sweet and he really seemed to care for America and the other girls. I can't wait to read more about him and America because I really enjoyed their relationship. They just seem really good for each other.

I'm not a big fan of dystopian novels so I don't really care about that aspect of the book. I'm honestly just reading this series as a guilty pleasure for the romance.
