I think that this is the first time I have found it impossible to rate a book. And no matter how hard I think about it, read about it or discuss it with people, I still stay strongly by my opinion. This book cannot be rated.
As with all of the CoHo books, it was partialy a YA book. And that parts felt a bit too juvenile. I know that is the way they were supposed to be, but I still didnt find them very interesting. There were also instant love and instant friendship parts and moments just too perfect to be real, so that is the other stuff I minded a bit. But still. There were great friendship moments. There were amazing love parts. There is a beautiful ex love story that will make you weep. And then there is a whole abuse story that is just heartbreaking, honest and insanely emotional. CoHo spoke from the heart sharing her own experience and it gives an amazing impact to the book itself. The fact that is still so often. The fact that women still feel too unprotected. Too scared. Too weak. The fact that there is still a person they love underneath that abusive cover. And the last words in the book felt so powerful and broke me to pieces.
So even if it cant be rated I do think that this is a must read. For us to learn. For us to get perspective. For us to acknowledge the domestic abuse problem. And open our eyes, cause things are never the way they seem.

Road trip book? Sign me in! And about Route 66, one of my travel bucket list destinations! Add a hot guy with a guitar and a girl in search for her identity? Im up for it!
Even through the synopsis this book checked all the boxes. And you know what, it delivered all of it. This is not some unbeliavable romance story. This is a real life romance. Honest. Sweet. With characters that are just like you and me, carrying a burden of history and a wish for a brighter future. This is a book about finding happiness. About living the life you want. And about all of those experiences that make a life worth living.
And the characters...you just cannot resist falling in love with them. Dylan is a dream guy. And Joy....Ive been Joy. I am her still - I will never turn my back on experiencing life to the fullest.
Be bold in life. Be brave. And read this book. Its so much more than you expect from it. So much more ❤.

3.5 / 5*
It is the first book where I wished there was more magic. The Malayan culture and folklore are beautifully intertwined with the story about a young boy Ren and a girl Ji Lin. I loved those characters, but the mystery part and the ending were just too bland.

Its all about the thrill,
its all about a kill.
Boys become toys,
College is full of joys.
And no one is a nice girl anymore.

Why, oh why, has this one been sitting on my shelf for almost two years? And all the time I was thinking that my friends dont have a clue when they praised this book. I silently judged them thinking it was depressing and boring.
But guess what? Damn I was wrong.
I've finished it in couple of days. Its quick. Its interesting. Its atmospheric. Its real. There is no fooling around - what you see is what you get. You want a picture of life in Naples in 1950? You got it.
Through the eyes of a little girl you will meet a whole neighbourhood. Everybody knows everybody's business. Even the children that have their own explanations of the adult world. They are loud, they are feisty, they are proud, they are romantic. Sometimes they act foolish, sometimes they act stupid. You will meet our narrator - Elena, and her best friend Lila. So similar but so different. Their friendship through life is the essence of this book. The jelaousy. The silent rivalry. The love. The attachment. Each has its own flaws, none is perfect. But still, they are both just girls trying to find their way in the world that surrounds them.
Maybe the reason I loved it is because it reminded me of my childhood. Of my friends. Of the way of life back then..the simpler one. Of the proud men. Of the poverty. And about small delights in life.
It is really hard to describe this book with words. But please, try reading it. It will stay with you, I can promise you that.
