Wicked by Gregory Maguire
4.0
I’ve had this book on my TBR for years. I never felt like tackling it though. Until, of course, the movie came out. After seeing the movie and developing a true Wicked obsession where I’ve listened to nothing but the soundtrack for over a week, I decided it was finally time to read the book.
The musical and book are NOTHING alike. This is one of those adaptations where only the names are the same. Part of me was hoping they would at least be a little similar because I really want to know what happens in the second movie (which is sort of funny given the fact that I’ve technically seen the musical live on its Broadway tour… it was just so long ago that I do not remember a single thing…) but oh well.
After seeing the movie, I’m not going to lie, the first half of this book was a bit rough. The musical version was much more exciting and seemed to be more of a fun backstory of The Wizard of Oz. This book was a world unto itself. But once we got to the post Shiz part of the story, I actually started to really like it. I lovedElphaba’s rebel work and her affair with Fiyero and her journey to see his widow. I liked the ending with Dorothy.
Now I’ll have to wait a year for the movie sequel like everyone else to know what happens next in that version… meanwhile I will continue to obsess over the soundtrack 🙃

I love love loveddddd this book! Omg it was amazing. Sci fi truly is my new favorite genre. I LOVED Mickey. I loved being in his mind. The audiobook narration was true perfection. I loved hearing about everything he got up to. I did not realize there was a sequel until I was almost finished this book so I’m really excited to read that. I hope it holds up to the original.

Loved it, as always. I wasn’t so sure at first- I didn’t like Mia in the first chapter or so. But once she met Lucas… ❤️❤️❤️

This sequel was okay. Maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood. I didn’t love it. It wasn’t bad I guess. It just wasn’t anything to recommend either.
Bones & All by Camille DeAngelis
With the last sentence of chapter 11 my heart broke. I should have seen that ending coming but I just didn’t. That probably makes me stupid. I prefer to think of myself as a hopeless romantic.
While the ending of chapter devastated me and I thought I would hate the ending/entire book because of it, I did actually manage to enjoy the absolute ending of the book. It’s strange to think of that ending as her growing as a person, but it really was. It was her accepting who she was and trying to have as successful/normal/happy a life as possible.

“And beneath that heavy warmth, the safety I had conjured out of a bottle, I felt my stomach rumble.”
"I only took off my blouse to keep it clean," I said.
He grinned. "Then you may as well take off your skirt."
I shook my head and took a step backward, just out of reach. "Do you know what the Dewey decimal number is for cannibalism, Jason?"
He looked at me blankly.
"It's three ninety-one point nine." Facts. I take such comfort in facts. "Want me to tell you why I know that?"
He laughed as he came closer, his hand still hidden in his waistband. "Are you going to devour me, little Miss Bookworm?"
I took a step backward. "Demonology, one thirty-three."
"Tell me more," Jason whispered. "Are you a succubus, Maren?"
"If you don't leave—right now—I will eat you. Throat first, then the rest of you." I took a deep breath and waited, but in the space of a nasty little thought, a memory, wormed its way through. There are some things I'm never going to tell you no matter how many times you ask. All this time, I thought I'd wanted to know.
Jason's eyes shone in the gloom of the stacks. He stepped into me and ran his tongue along the edge of my jaw. "I had no idea you were so twisted."
I sighed as I pressed my lips to his neck. "Nobody ever does.”
