Turn The Tables - From Challenges to Opportunities by Priya Kumar
3.0
Turn the Tables by Priya Kumar is an inspirational book that tells the readers how to overcome hurdles and change them into possibilities. She wrote eleven novels and a recognized motivational orator. I read her book for the first time. Being a fan of non-fiction, I choose this book to learn something distinct.
The book starts with a parable of Buddha, which further leads to twenty-eight chapters consists of Priya Kumar's accomplishments, anecdotes, and what she learned over these past few years. She talks about her school life struggles and how they mold her into a bigger person. She had nine years of experience as a French tutor, but one day she decides to quit her job and try her fate in motivational speaking. I connect with this part because I also left my teaching job and began working as a full-time blogger; which was not an easy task. To step out from your comfort zone and push your limits is not everyone's forte, but when you find the courage to do, it will become the best decision of your life.
This book aims to change your vision, embrace your connections, and learn to handle and solve problems too. Although, I feel the content is repetitive. The language is easily understandable, and writing is flawless. In some places, I felt that the author was self-engrossed. Overall, this book is a light read, given with the questionnaire after each chapter to help you evaluate your life. I recommend this to the newbie or someone who needs any inspiration from another person's experiences.

FIFTY DAYS TO FITNESS : BE A FITNESS FREAK AND BE FIT FOR LIFE by Ravindran
4.0
Being healthy is a choice, a necessity if you ask me. We all endure some kind of physical pain, takes some antibiotics, make amends to live a healthy life from now on, but failed terribly, not all, but most of us. We know that living a healthy life, exercise and a nutritious diet is essential. Fifty Days to Fitness is such a book that works as a guide written by Ravindran.
The book is fast-paced. It tells us the significance of exercises, and why we should not ignore it. Our dietary habits are worst, we eat fast, consume more than required, it affects our internal organs. The author gives a 50 days action plan to affirm his teachings of different yoga postures.
To make the content mild and engaging, the author uses examples of diverse personalities; some were imaginary. He also talks about Indian scriptures and how the modern world needs to incline towards spirituality because it all starts in our head. We will find a lot of books on health and fitness in the market, but this book also tells you what not to do, and the author is an instance of teachings he shares in the book. He is 77 years old with no disease, not even a BP.
I liked the part dedicates to students and IT professionals. Quoting the author, your total wellness depends upon both the body and mind. Both are interdependent. The health of the mind depends upon how cheerful you are. So, this book is not about physical health, but mental too. This is kind of a book everyone should read. I recommend it.

B*tch, F*cking Love Yourself by S.P.B. Berry
4.0
B*tch, F*cking Love Yourself by S.P.B Berry based on promoting self-love and care. The author tries to spread positivity and talks about the fearlessness one needs to lead a happy and healthy life.
It is a short book, easily completed in twenty to thirty minutes, but the text will remain with the readers for a long time. Like any other self-help novel, S.P.B Berry didn't give lengthy speeches. Her writing is simple and communicative.
Self-reflection is vital, but we don't dare to do that, nor we have the time. But once we start appreciating little things about ourselves, our life will take a turn into the right path. The author's main aim behind writing this book is that we learn to love ourselves, live our dreams, and stay away from assholes. There is a whole chapter dedicated to assholes, and I enjoyed it. The poem written on them is terrific and witty.
The language is bittersweet, and the cover page is straightforward. The content is mind-blowing and certainly hooked the readers. The book helps you identify negative toxic behavior or choices and how to overcome them. In the author's word, we forgot to be vulnerable, and we forgot how to accept vulnerability. We struggled to make friends and didn't appreciate the light in dark moments. The author gives some real-life examples which will touch your heart. I recommend this book to everyone.

The Energy Healing Bible by Renu Arora
4.0
The Energy Healing Bible by Renu Arora is a representation of ART (Accelerated Release Technique). She uses this method to heal and aid individuals who are aching from reasoning, emotional, and physical problems. The concept of ART involves crystal therapy, past and parallel lives, guardian angels, spirits, and etheric planes; divided into four aspects, Core, Ego, Mind, and the Higher Self.
The book is divided into four sections. In the first part, Chronicles of an Energy Healer, the author let us into her journey of becoming an energy healer and states the reason for leaving her work as a dietitian.
In the second part, Your Subconscious is Speaking, Are You Listening? It is about Muscle Testing and its attributes, working and programming of Pendulums, and how to start understanding the clues, given by our subconscious mind. Most of the times, we ignored it and stuck; until we release the feelings or beliefs connected to it. Our subconscious speaks to us through our physical problems, but it is communicating in a very specific language.
In the third part, The Big Picture, Renu Arora asserts that spiritual spheres are as significant, as the material one. In the author's words, While in the physical world, each of us is separate and distinct; in the spiritual world, there are no boundaries to separate us. It is in this world where we are all part of the "Collective Conscious." We are divine and infinite. Imagine the spiritual realm being the sun, and as we enter the physical world, we separate out into our individual rays of light. We are no less divine on Earth than we were within the Collective. The detailed description of energy fields and timeline with energy centres, like Chakras (which is originated in India) enhance spiritual awareness.
In the last part, The Accelerated Release Technique one will understand how to neutralize or remove the stuck energy. This segment provides a list of emotions and beliefs, with a healing prayer. It is represented by flowcharts which make the steps easier to understand.
The book is written understandably without any grammatical errors. The cover page is calming, and the title is impressive. Renu Arora includes case studies (they were my favourites), used references, and testimonials. Being a scientist and atheist, it was not easy for her to believe in Guardian Angels and in the power of healing by pendulums. But with time, she discovered a lot more which she never thought of.
I finish this novel, in almost 20 days, because you can't bustle when you read something like this especially when you re-read to not miss a single point. Sometimes I felt that the content is repetitive, it is the only problem I have with this book.
In the blurb, the author mentions that if you yearn to heal yourself or others? Then this book was written for you. After reading, I must say I agreed with her. The book is best suited to healing practitioner, but those who are into spiritual reading or learning, this book gives some unheard insights.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
4.0
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea is a classic book about submarine and sea expedition. We all heard about Captain Nemo or watched movies based on him. Jules Verne creates an underwater world that breathes taking.
Ned Land, a harpooner, Professor Pierre Aronnax, and his servant Conseil, with a team of men, set out to find about a mysterious creature of the sea. But they were imprisoned at Nautilus by Captain Nemo. He treats them well, but they were not allowed to go back to land. Captain Nemo is generous but ruthless at the same time. His secrets attract the professor, and soon he becomes the part of Captain Nemo's expedition.
They traveled different seas, unveil magnificent creatures, and ruin cities. While the professor was pleased with the events, Ned Land wants to escape the submarine. The expression dead men tell no tale fits here because if one has to leave the Nautilus, they should be stagnant. I presume it is one of the reasons why Captain Nemo bestows almost all the functioning of the ship with the professor.
What will happen when the professor and Ned Land share different notions of their states? Is Captain Nemo a good man, or it is all just a pretense?
The story is narrated by the professor, which makes it exciting because his character is inquisitive all the time. Conseil's personality seems to be like a slave because he has no opinions, he is always ready to do whatever his master says. While Ned Land is firm, but I felt like that he is just there to remind the professor that they don't belong on Nautilus. Caption Nemo is the real deal, he is secretive, sensitive, brutal, stubborn, and fearless. Professor tried a lot to know the reasons why he built the submarine, why he left the land, and hate politics so much, but the Caption has a persona that no one was able to decode.
What I like -
Smooth narration.
The story is fast-paced and fun.
The language is lucid.
The expeditions of different places seem surreal.
The fights with deadly creatures were formidable.
If you love books based on sea creatures, voyages, submarines, then pick this book right now. I enjoy reading it and hope you'll too.

Requiem, Changing Times by R.J. Parker
4.0
Requiem, Changing Times by R. J. Parker is the first book in the series that revolves around two worlds, whose fate depends on Clint Holden. The story starts when someone plants a bomb at different locations. Then it switches to another world of magic. They were given a task to bring something precious within a week and a portal brought them to the present-day world.
Imagine that you're going to school with your best friend, and suddenly from nowhere a stranger attack you. You run to save your life, and try to figure out what has happened? Clint Holden and his friend Corbin had the worst day ever, but it is just starting. Things get weirder when Clint's parents left for a week.
People looking for Clint Holden for some odd reasons. The attack scared the hell out of him, but when a group of dwarves interrogates him, everything changed for him and his family. Clint's parents left Cody, Tamara, Kayla, and Grant under their elder sister Jamie's supervision. She is self-obsessed and doesn't care about anyone. When the attacks become frequent Banks, leader of dwarves aid them and tell the reason why they came to their world, and what they look for is called Requiem.
For siblings, it is hard to digest, but they all acquainted with Banks, O'Neil, Nix, and others. They trust them, but Banks told them only half-truth, which made the plot intriguing. With time Clint understands that there is so much he didn’t know and it cost him his kith and kin. But will Banks have got what he wants? What is the role of a teenager in all this?
The Spell Binder's role is cold and written well. The action sequences are detailed and hooked me from start to end. The narratives have some loose ends, which I think left for the next book. The end fights with trolls and everyone was magnificent.
The characters are funny, especially Corbin and O'Neil. I enjoyed their mumbo-jumbo. The change in Tamara is significant. Every high school has a queen bee, in this story, it was Amber, who wants Clint. While he’s love interest is Melanie, and their interaction with him makes the story relatable to young readers. Every character has their space and time to connect with readers.
R. J. Parker puts Clint and his family into a deadly adventurous journey. At some places, I felt it lacks thrill a little bit. But overall, this book is worth reading with all the supernatural beings in the picture. I am eagerly waiting for the next book, to know the answer to all my questions. I recommend this book to young adults and fantasy lovers.

The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain
2.0
It is a story of two young boys Edward and Tom Canty. One born as a Prince of England, and another in a poor household. Fate brought them together, and they switch places due to identical resemblances. Tom, who always imagined being a royal now living his dream life. While Edward, a gullible and gentle Prince, who never knows the suffering of any kind, is starving, beaten, and called names.
I pick this book because a few months back, I watched The Princess Switch movie starring Vanessa Hudgens. A young princess switches place with a normal girl and finds love. Things will end on a good note. But I was naive that I think Mark Twain's novel will be like this at all.
A lot of movies and series are inspired by The Prince and The Pauper's book. But the real essence of this book is missing in all those tales. It is a kind of account that is difficult to conjecture. It depicts the harsh realities of culture; when people were burned alive or hanged for petty offenses. Prince Edward witness these brutalities in his journey that changes the course of his life.
Tom Canty's father and grandmother were abusive. They forced him and his two sisters to beg and beats them immensely without any remorse. When he switches place with Edward, the poor prince has endured all the humiliation. They both try to tell others the truth but labeled insane.
This is the first time I read Mark Twain's book, but I am not sure if I am going to pick his work again anytime sooner. The reason is his writing and narratives, complex language did no good to me. This novel puts me nearly in a reading slump. But at the same time, I like how we wrote this historical fiction with accurate details of gentlefolk and elites. The different characters support the leads and help them to reach their destinations despite their miseries is commendable. I am not going to recommend this book, but if you are into classics, give this a try.

Faster than Lightning: My Autobiography by Usain Bolt
4.0
Usain Bolt, I guess everyone heard his name once in their life. He is a living legend for many people and also known as the fastest man on Earth. It’s his autobiography in which he told how he wins races and smashing records one by one. The untold truth of his life and his journey from teenage sensation to international superstar was very well described in this book.
Usain’s home was Coxeath, a small village in Jamaica. He was a mommy’s boy and hates to see her upset. His father was a traditional and very strict man. He believed in manners and respect all the time. Due to all his father's teachings, Usain learns how to respect everyone even if they disrespect you. There are so many incidents from his childhood in this book that are well portrayed and his first coach was his family dog, Brownie. Since childhood Usain want to become a cricket player but destiny brought him to track. In school, he never took running seriously until he won few championships and got sports scholarship at William Knibb High School but after that, he started bunk his class and sessions which lead him to low grades and all the teachers and former Olympic sprinter Pablo McNeil tried to explain him the importance of training. Every athlete needs motivation and a good coach in Usain case money becomes his motivation and Coach Mills is the one responsible for making him a legend on the track. The more he wins the more he earns through advertisement. He was only 15 when he won CARIFTA games in Nassau and the crowd suddenly started screaming, ‘Lightning Bolt! Lightning Bolt!’ and he got his nickname from there. After winning World Junior Championship he was flashing on everybody’s radar but there were distractions too.
Every athlete has up and down in his career and deals with injuries. He also faces this even there was a moment when people started hating him because he loses. But he works hard and with determination or proper guidance of his coach he won a gold medal in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He set a new world record with a time of 9.69 seconds in 100 meters and show his signature pose. To know one's real aim is very important Usain learn this after his accident in 2009. But life is tricky and records are meant to be broken. There were other sprinters too who give tough competition to him like Tyson, Asafa, and Blake but Usain beat each one of them and make himself clear to the world that no one can beat him. He also won a gold medal in 100 meters race at the 2012 London Olympics game.
At some point, he sounds arrogant or self-centered but I guess it's not completely true because he is a global phenomenon and undisputed superstar athlete. But media and other athletes time to time question his ability to win. Usain proved them wrong by winning so many titles. There were so many people behind his success. There was some insight information on a player's life and how they overcome fear and prove themselves to the world. This is one of my favorite autobiographies to date. I know his fans will definitely read this because it's really good to know the life story of a living legend and I would recommend this to everyone.

There was some insight information on a player's life and how they overcome fear and prove themselves to the world. This is one of my favorite autobiographies to date. I know his fans will definitely read this because it's really good to know the life story of a living legend and I would recommend this to everyone.

KP: The Autobiography by Kevin Pietersen
4.0
Being a huge cricket fan, this book was in my tbr for so long. Now I read it and thinking why I didn't pick it sooner? Kevin Pietersen is one of the best cricket players. He was born and brought up in South Africa and moved to England when he was nineteen years old. If he didn't make that choice, probably he will never become what he is today.
This book gives a little insight into his personal life because it is full of his professional experiences within the English dressing room and with the professionals of other countries. He talks openly about his intense relationship with coach Andy Flower. His mates made a Twitter account to make fun of him, or to insult him. Whatever he says got twisted by journalists, even when he took the matter to ECB (English Cricket Board), they ignored him and leaked the details to media.
The pressure is increasing day by day not only on Kevin, but on other players as well, but no one has guts to speak about it. People didn't even want to acknowledge it. KP also shares about his time playing IPL in India. For so long, everyone holds grudge against him for this.
Kevin cleared that he was in IPL for the money because the career of a player is short, and if you got injured, and never got a chance to play, then you need to be prepared financially. But this is not the only reason, for him, IPL was like a teaching school, where he met world-class players and learns from them. But the English team, management, and journalist bad-mouthed his every move. They thought that he doesn't care about his teammates at all.
This book is loaded with the details of crushing schedules, intense disciplines, getting twisted every word by media, betrayal by his mates, selfish coach and management, harmful banter. KP overcame from each mortification, and tried to improve relations because he wanted to play for England, he wanted to win for England. This book gives an insight into messy English dressing room conversations, and how it influences the capacity to play.
The book is an eye-opener, from outside it all seems normal, but when you brood over details, you realize how harsh people were with him. At some points, I felt like the novel is saddled with complaints, but on the other hand, I also sensed that he's just attempting to point out what he underwent in all those years. So, if you are into cricket, pick this book. It is recommendable.
