The Flute And The Sword : The story of Meera and Jaimal and the rise and fall of Merta by Randhir Sinh, Karuna Sinh
5.0
An old age saga of Meera and her love for Lord Krishna is well-known. But a few know that her elder brother Jaimal spends his whole life to save his motherland, Merta. The Flute and The Sword by Randhir and Karuna Sinh is an epitome of all the bloodshed seen by Rajasthan in the 16th century, especially, Merta, Mewar, and Chittor.
We all read Meera's tales and proses written by her in the school curriculum. The way she indulges in lord's bhakti is appreciated by many, but some people want all this to end. Her husband Bhojraj, the crown prince of Mewar, and eldest son of Rana Sanga always protects Meera bai. But after his death in a battle, attempts of assassination starts on Meera. They share a strong bond of friendship and affection, but Meera always considered Lord Krishna as her husband. Her spiritual journey begins from Merta but ends at Dwarka. She touches the lives of millions of people and loves the children most.
Jaimal becomes the ruler of Merta, after the death of his father, Rao Veeram Dev. He adores Meera, and care for her, with all his heart. He is a warrior that is forgotten with time by many of us. He fought fiercely at battlegrounds. He and his family members not only fought for Merta but also for Chittorgarh when Akbar attacks. At that time, Rana Udai Singh was the ruler of Mewar. They lost the battle. Jaimal was killed by Akbar, with Kallaji, and many other unsung heroes of Rajputana clans.
Meera was Uday's sister in law but gives him motherly love when she was in Mewar. When Meera denies leaving Dwarka, he sent some high-ranking officials to bring her back. The incident turned out to be not what he or others expected. After losing the battle with Akbar, Udai's son Maharana Pratap emerges with a splendiferous era. We all heard or read about his valor. But before him, there is an abundant record of fighters and battles that took one's breath away.
This book portrays rich information on conflicts of Rajput's within themselves. The war tactics and scenes were written marvelously. The book has a rich vocabulary and gives you a chance to learn more about our antiquity. The last battle scene when Jaimal fought on the back of Kallaji gave me goosebumps. The Rajput heroes are known for their fearsomeness and love for the motherland. But the power lust, and constant battles with each other, gave a chance to foreigners to penetrate India and rule over us.
I appreciate the authors' efforts for all the research, and I am glad that I got the chance to read this astonishing piece of art. While there are a few things that contradict each other and fictional, the authors' cleared them at the end of the book. In Ashutosh Gowariker's movie Jodha Akbar, we see a different part of Akbar that we like. But in this book, I understand that he is merciless. He is wicked, hungry for power, and short-tempered. He killed over 30k innocent natives after the battle is over in Chittorgarh.
History is my favorite subject since my teenage days. I feel a nexus towards all the past legends and craves for more. So, this novel proves to be an excellent read for me. The Jauhars (if a monarch was about to lose a battle, mass self-immolation was commenced by women), and Sati practices were widespread in those days. The authors mention those events gracefully. Every significant aspect regarding Meera and Jaimal is incorporated in this volume. If you're a chronicle enthusiast, pick this book right now. I highly recommend it.

The Knot: You Have the Right to Change by Ajay Bhootra
4.0
The Knot by Ajay Bhootra portrays a notion of fantasy and conventional norms of the community. According to the blurb, the story is best suited for the readers above 18, which makes sense after reading the first page. I like the cover design. It grabs attention and the subtitle, "you have the right to change" gives positive vibes.
Plot - The main characters of the story are Rhea and Ronnie. Born and brought up in Kolkata, Rhea decides to pursue her undergraduate from St. Xavier's in Mumbai. Here she met Ronnie, a year senior. They both came from a wealthy family, but their beliefs and upbringing were varying. Rhea's family loves her a lot while Ronnie's parents never show him affection. He turned out to be a spoiled brat. When Ronnie first saw Rhea, he was spellbound by her beauty. All he wants is to fuck her. He befriended Rhea with the help of Ayesha and Danny, his partners in crime.
Ronnie's plan set in the motion. The parties, dates, college gossips all lead Rhea and Ronnie close, but not close enough to get what they both want. Their haste decision of marriage opposed by Rhea's parents, but her stubbornness alters everything. Soon she realized the mistakes she made, and try to rectify them. In the process of self-realization, Rhea set a benchmark for everyone. While Ronnie's infatuation drives him to nowhere.
Overall, the book questions the old age way of relationship and how it affects the life of youths. It starts with sheer lust and ends up with a thought-provoking speech, showcases human ambitions and struggles. I would certainly recommend it.

Dreamsphere: The Day We Stopped Dreaming by Samson Tonauac
2.0
Dreamshpere is a place or state of mind created by Dr. Clive W. Rossak with the aid of nano drives and the bIOS (Biological Operating System). Memories can be classified, created, defragged, and dismissed; after every 120 years. People almost reached to immortality, and there is no sign of Gods whatsoever. George and Amy never saw each other and fall in love online. When they first meet George died, soon Amy diagnosed with Cancer. They both prefer to study by Dr. Clive and met again after a long time via Virtual Reality. I like their American dream vs Parisian dream theory. Meanwhile, Clive and his clones start considering themselves as God.
Samson Tonauac wanted to create a story where the character's written to be dislikeable. He achieves that goal. This cyberpunk story had the potential to stand out, but out of whack narration slay it. The graphics were good, but unnecessary advertisements break the reading flow. The story is all about how human life is miserable even after World War third, and all technological advancements. People stop dreaming; they live in reality far from the truth. They don't have many choices, because they are addicted to drugs, and immortality took a toll on them.
It is Samson's debut book, and he is working on the second part. I hope that he inscribes it in chronological order and produces some notable personalities. I like witticism encompassing the world's politics and brand-names. The concept seems fresh, but it proves to be an okay read for me. The end also felt abrupt and fragmentary. If you like tumultuous and non-viable cyberpunk novels, pick this one.

Island Games: Mystery of the Four Quadrants by Caleb J. Boyer
2.0
I am the eye of the storm; I can stay calm & centered regardless of anything.
It's a story about two boys Ryan and Matthew. One day they woke up on a mysterious island with no clue how they got there. They have no food, water or shelter to hide. But they have to survive and find a way to escape from the creepy island.
The story is fast-paced, but I don't like the way the story end or some dialogue between the main characters. The story is based on the imagination of the 12-year-old author. The author tried very well, but I believe he can do better. I recommend this book to children only.

Time Crawlers by Varun Sayal
5.0
Time Crawlers by Varun Sayal is a sci-fi book. There are six stories of parallel universe. This book is full of infinite possibilities. All the stories were different, but the core was the same. Something happening in the parallel universe, but their realities are different from our world in so many ways.
Let's talk about the six stories -
1. Eclipse - "Tomorrow is a luxury no-one has."
We have seen in movies that aliens attack our planet and the government tries to hide the presence of those creatures. This story told us that aliens living among us for a very long time. We are so distracted by world affairs that we didn't even notice their presence. According to this story, Aliens are the one who changes the climate of our planet and guides monkeys to civilization. But they have weaknesses too which is used by humans to destroy them.
2. Death by Crowd - "All other species on this planet are simplistic, natural intelligence; they grow and learn at a limited pace, their evolution is gradual and well checked by nature. But we humans have grown unchecked."
This story is a part of the interview over the black site about crypto-currency and the live show where people burn themselves. A hacker which is considered as an alien because no one ever saw him/her. This story focuses on Artificial Intelligence just like the movie Matrix. We humans don't know about our past clearly. This story left readers with a question of our existence. We are the one who creates AI or what if we are the AI?
3. Genie - "I never heard of a female genie in any of the stories.
Genie - You are one sexist son of a bitch."
A man named Marco, lost in a jungle finds an old oil lamp. Suddenly, a female genie appears in front of him. The conversation between the two of them is funny and fascinating. We never thought of a female genie, how sad. But the author's imagination is on the next level. This story told us that we humans always abuse the gifts we receive. The lamp is considered a high-tech communication device that creates a momentary wormhole. The genie appears in nanoseconds from another planet.
4. Time Crawlers - "Those who dance are considered insane by those who can't hear the music."
This story is based on time travel. A person can co-exist in two moments at the same time. They experience multiple moments of time and can easily switch from one period to another at will. Who are they? Humans? Aliens? Strange humans? Those people who know about them are called time-readers. This story told a very different aspect of time travel.
5. The Cave - "External senses may lie to you, but your brain always senses the true picture."
The story starts when highly trained seventeen soldiers were found dead in a cave. Soon they realized that it's not just a cave, but an ancient warship. The dark lord of that ship which is a type of bacteria feeds on energy. They called a telekinetic, Kaaljeevi who is a living teleporter to save the planet. This story brings a scientific aspect of our planet.
6. The Hell Weapon - "There is no such thing as magic. It's all science."
The story is a perfect blend of scientific inventions and Indian mythology. It is about taking revenge. We heard the stories from Mahabharata and Ramayan, where bow and arrow can create mass destruction. What if those weapons are high-tech voice-guided weapons? This story is about nuclear warfare techniques and lethal weapons.
The author did very well in his debut book. It's a short read. One can finish it in one sitting. The approach towards the story is subtle. The stories are intriguing, convincing, and fascinating. There is a mix of humor and darkness. It is thought-provoking. I would recommend this book to those who like science fiction, these short stories are perfect for everyone.

Until Love Sets Us Apart: To Love with Love by Aditya R. Nighhot
5.0
Everything is fair in love and war, and this is love with war. Until love sets us apart by Aditya Nighhot is romantic fiction. This story is inspired by real-life incidents. This is Aditya's second book. The plot of the story based on friendship and love.
The main characters are Aisha and Rohit. Rohit had a muscular body, straight hair, six feet tall. He looked like a model. Aisha had fair skin and blue eyes. She is from Delhi while Rohit is from Pune. They pursue M.B.B.S from Bharat Medical College. They both met first at college. Rohit is a stud and carefree. He never takes studies seriously. Aisha is the complete opposite. She is studious and sincere. Apart from these two, there are Alok, a small-town boy. Neha, a sarcastic one and Kriti, love of Alok and a good friend.
These five spend their college life together. They share love, joy, drama, agony, horror everything. They always help each other no matter what the situation is. Rohit and Aisha soon fall for each other. Their relationship is perfect. They complement each other. Rohit's life has completely changed because of Aisha. She brings the best out of him. There love story is sweet and simple. They all were happy until a tragedy hit their life. A tragic incident turns their world upside down.
I am not gonna spoil the story by telling you about the traumatic incident. It was a turning point in the story and their lives as well. They all completed their graduation. Rohit and Aisha dreamed of their marriage; Alok, Neha, and Kriti were looking forward to their post-graduation. They all were excited for Aisha and Rohit. Their love was strong, and it had left a positive influence on everyone's life.
We all have regrets in our life. We have dark sides as well. But we don't show that often. It only comes out when we lost something very dear to us or when someone cheats us, leaves us alone forever. Some people forget and forgive, but some seek for revenge. This story is a perfect blend of love and seeking revenge. Sometimes your emotions cloud your judgment, and you no longer are the same person as you were once.
The author describes their friendship and love life in detail. I can connect with the characters. I felt their joy and pain. The writing is flawless. The story is engaging and didn't bore me. It shows the reality of our society; a harsh one. The author tries to bring a change in the community through this story. This book gives you a sad ending and leaves the reader with so many questions and pain. The author creates suspense elements very well. This story touches my soul and makes me cry.
The narration is powerful. The author narrates Aisha's relationship with her parents well. The story is described by Alok's point of view. The characters grow with the story. But I expect more from Neha and Kriti's character. The story keeps readers hooked. The language is simple. At some points, it feels cliche. I love reading the letter written by Aisha to Rohit. Circumstances change a good person into a monster. There is a lot more about this story rather than love. All the happy moments they shared with each other will live with you even after the story ends. I would strongly recommend this book to everyone. "To Love with Love."

The Blue Moon Day: Five Men's Magical Discovery enroute Life by Santhosh Sivaraj
4.0
The Blue moon day is the author's debut book. It's a story about five different individuals Abi, Deepak, Vivi, Sankaran, and Prabha. They were lost in their lives. Each individual has own story and struggles. Abi wants a good job. Deepak wants his love Priya. Vivi is hanging between job and family. Sankaran who is living in an old age home wants his family. Prabha wants to live a healthy life. They all go through a dark face in their life until a ray of hope comes and change their lives completely.
The author describes each of their story in separate sections. Each story is divergent than others but the teaching and end are the same. We all know that one person who brings positivity in our life. In this story, an old man helps these five people to achieve their happiness. He gives purpose to living. He is kind of Santa Claus who knows what you want and what is stopping you from finding it. One can easily connect with characters.
I really like the concept of Zero mind theory. In this theory, a person can do all the work which he/she didn't do in ages without giving any single thought. I applied this theory to my life and I must say I am very impressed by the results.
"There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way."
The author's writing is simple and easily understandable. There are a few errors in the book. He did a good job but still, there is a long way to go. The author said - "Just as writing fast is a talent, Reading slowly is also a virtue. I would recommend that you read this book slowly, to gain the most from the experience." But it's a quick read. I complete this book in 2 days. So it's your choice you want to read it slow or fast but it's a must-read. It does not extend unwantedly and good for newcomers too.

Sorry, You're Not My Type by Sudeep Nagarkar
2.0
This is a story about friendship, love, dreams, desire and the harsh reality of life. A story of a college band named VAYU and it's member Vikrant, the drummer who believes in perfection, well built, six feet tall and a one-woman man. Anamika, a dancer of the band, free spirit, gorgeous and always stand for right. Yuvi, the guitarist, and vocalist, athletic body, belong to a rich family and extremely fond of bikes.
Every friendship needs bonding to last forever. Three of them have different personalities but their passion for music brought them close to each other. But sometimes too much closeness creates trouble; having mixed feelings about your friend put Anamika in a very horrible phase of her life while Yuvi indulge in drugs ruins her relationship with his girlfriend Kashish as well as his whole life, where Vikrant deeply falling in love with Sanya would never be able to celebrate the day their relationship had kicked off.
This book tells us that to love somebody isn't just a strong feeling; it's a decision, a judgment, and a promise. There are so many people who had broken this promise but there are few who stood like a strong pillar and support their beloved ones in every situation.
This is a true story that will define again fondness, passion, and friendship but the title had no connection with the story. At some point, I like this book because it took me into the depth of love and friendship prevailing these days in our society. But few parts were cliche and feels like you read a typical Bollywood movie script. If you are free and you have nothing to read then go for this book; maybe at some point you will relate to any of these characters but if you want to read something worthy than this book is definitely not for you.

No Matter What I Do... by Devanshi Sharma
2.0
This is the author's third novel but for me, it's her first book I have read.
It is a story of four avid youngsters intertwines with each other. Amaira, carefree, self-assured and a very strong character in this book. Kabir who enjoys attention, politically ambitious, elder brother of Amaira. Kushank, a shining businessman but weak-kneed. Suhani sings beautifully but introvert and faint-hearted.
The story begins with Mrs. Khanna, sole trustee of SVS Medical College, who had decided to retire and transfer the responsibility of college and hospital to her younger son, Kushank. He was fond of business and management & run an IT company in Delhi and doesn't want to take this responsibility. Amaira got admission to SVS to come to Bhopal and deals with a lot of ups and downs in her college life whereas Kabeer indulges in college politics and stealing all the limelight. Exams were not his cup of tea. Kabeer meets Suhani and falls for her; Suhani, being an obedient child of his family start searching for the purpose of her life with the help of Kabeer. This is a family-oriented story where Amaira and Kabeer's parents made them bold and independent and Kushank or Suhani's parents never understand what their children truly desire.
All the characters were portrayed very well. They all have problems in their life but sooner or later with the help of each other they overcome and excel in their fields. Every girl wants to become like Amaira, the way she handles the college situation was splendid and the relationship of Amaira with Kabeer was little messy while Kabeer becomes the strength of Suhani in a very short time.
They all have their adventures which are well written. The author is from my city Indore so I was really excited to read this novel and one can easily connect with any of these characters but I don't like the ending too much. There are so many unanswered questions that left me thinking about the characters or maybe the author was planning for a sequel but it's quite disappointing. I would recommend this book to only those who like a slow pacy storyline.

Your Dreams Are Mine Now by Ravinder Singh
3.0
It is a story about eighteen years old, confident, idealist girl Rupali from Patna who takes admission in Delhi University and Arjun, a Delhi guy who is seriously into politics. An incident in DU brings both of them to close. They face ups and downs but always stand by each other's side. The way Rupali raise her voice for someone else and stood against something terrible happened on campus is the main plot.
The love story of Arjun and Rupali goes very slowly which makes me feel bored. but there are also few things which I like when a first-year girl (Rupali) proposed to a senior (Arjun), a very confident proposal...the planes flying above them, the noise of traffic.
One can only understand the title if he/she read the book from start to end. It's a beautiful thought of the author that the plant digs up by Rupali in the first year will be nurtured by Arjun in the end; because for Rupali that plant was her dream and Arjun wants to take care of her dream. It's an innocent love story with a sad end.
The previous work of the author is much better than this but if you are a fan of Ravinder Singh and like a simple slow love story then you can give it a try.
